YELLOW PAGES GROUP WARNS OF NEW BUSINESS FAX SCAM

Yellow Pages Group is today warning of a fax scam (as attached) that is being sent to businesses requesting their information in order to be listed online.

The company, Yellow-Directory-NEWZEALAND, is not part of the Yellow Pages Group and customers should exercise extreme care when engaging with this company. The company lists interests in Hong Kong, United States and the United Kingdom, and the fax campaign has been identified as a scam by the Department of Internal Affairs.

Customers who receive this fax can complain to the Department of Internal Affairs (Anti-Spam Compliance Unit) if the facsimile was sent to them without consent: http://www.dia.govt.nz/diawebsite.nsf/wpg_URL/Services-Anti-Spam-Fax-Spam-Complaints

Additionally, they can lay a complaint with the Commerce Commission if they believe the facsimiles to be a scam, or otherwise false or misleading in nature: http://www.comcom.govt.nz/online-complaint-form/

So this is what all those fax from 0000 that sometimes ring my number are...

There's one result for pizza in that fake web site, and even though it says "New Zealand" it's actually an address in NSW, Australia.

Poor attempt at scam, really poor.

Incompetent criminals and badly constructed scams are really annoying. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing well.

Hmmm, I got one of those yesterday and today.  Thanx for the info.  I shall be complaining.

Been getting these as well, so turned on anonymous call rejection (VFX service) and all quiet since.

Spoke too soon. Looks like I just wasn't getting any 0000 calls. One came in earlier. I guess anon call rejection doesn't reject anything with numbers in it .
