First sbiddle reported the NZ Herald story of Telecom being unable to supply broadband to a woman in a very wealthy neighbourhood.

Now Vodafone and Woosh have gotten into the act by sending out vans to the area to proove they can supply broadband services.

TVNZ has the story. To quote Paul Brislen on the episode "the challenge was irresistible"

Hardly.

It doesnt matter what the houses are worth, nor how much their owners are worth. The woman probably wants to spend $70 a month on fixed broadband.

I bet she would have a spat if her family downloaded 80GB of music to fill their iPods over a cellular connection, and im sure many ADSL customers in New Zealand cant get VFNZ cellular signal in their homes (half of Bluff Hill in Napier for a start, theres a few expensive houses up there with CEOs CFOs and Directors who cant get their preferred suppliers phone to ring in their lounge).

'Red faced' - I doubt anyone actually cares all that much. The time/wages/petrol/depreciation etc invested by these companies to send staff out there for testing has probably now exceed what that woman would want to spend on a years service.

Hardly.

Oh yes it is, and I hear that Telecom's now upgrading the Remuera exchange so that Gibbs and the rest of Paratai Drive can get DSL.

Of course it didn't. We can also be sure that if it was a suburb at the other end of the scale it would have gotten the same attention!

To be honest mine is actually quite good. 6Mbps+ down and around 400Kbps up but thats not the average here. If TCL starting laying cable especially in the CBD the customers would come in large numbers.

I think it's more embarassing by the fact that they could actually film a Telecom ad praising its services, but can't actually cover the residence with basic services....

Except that now the whole country knows there are alternatives to Telecom. The whole exercise would be booked as (national) marketing.

There you go, Telecom has sorted out more capacity in the exchange. Fast, huh?

Vodafone, Woosh, Compass all rushed in... and Orcon too:

Orcon also sent a truck to Paritai Drive to see if she could be connected by satellite via a Skype phone.

There are two names on that story, and for all you know, it may have been the sub editors... or even what Orcon said.

That quote was featured in her updated story last night that only featured her name.

If it was a sub editor you really wonder what else is wrong in the paper..
