Just installed Vodafone VDSL. From day 1 the upload speed is 20Mbps. The installer said it's a bit far away from the cabinet, I can't remember the exact number. Anyone could tell me that information? The house is on the corner of Balmain Rd/Mokoia Rd/Waipa St, NorthShore Auckland.

From day 1, the speed is 20Mbps, it got a slight increase in the first week and now sitting on 21Mbps.

I believe a master filter is installed.

Is it normal for a properly installed VDSL? Any room for improvement? Thanks heaps.

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I recommend you read these two blog posts:

- Is your premises phone wiring impacting your broadband performance? (very technical)

- Are you receiving a substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?

If you can answer most of Peter Reader's posts we can help you better :)

Edit: you may be being served by the exchange at Birkenhead, or Verran's Corner, going on that location.

Assuming you have a property installed master filter the simple answer is no.

Your speeds are perfectly normal and within spec for a VDSL2 connection. The simple real world reality is the further you are from a cabinet or exchange, the slower your speeds will be.

Hi,
Looking at the line attenuation you cant be far from a cabinet, I presume too that it is a Chorus DSLAM  you are connected to.
I also note the Modem has only be up for less than 2 days.

The other issue with VDSL is the Dynamic Line Management (DLM) takes several days to fully stabilise.

Give it a few days and see if the line rates improve.

:-D
Thanks, I'm trying. ....

-I have rested the Mac and HG659.
-No other device using internet when testing.
-Using Giga lan cable, not wireless.
-It's a naked VDSL, I have disconnect the telephone line straight from the "box" on the external wall.

-Vodafone Naked VDSL
-VDSL
-Status as photo above.
-Location is corner of Balmain Rd/Mokoia Rd/Waipa St, NorthShore Auckland.
-Should be urban
-Sorry I have no idea.
-No idea and cabinet/exchange.
-No idea about ULL.
-Not yet done a isolation test.

I believe a master filter is installed. And it's the new CAT6 network cable running from the "box" on the external wall to the HG659.
Installation was done by a Chorus guy.

The Hg659 doesnt have the capability to report attenuation so it reads 0.

Hi Jedsdad, thanks of the help.

The connection has been up for 2 weeks. That 2 days showing is probably I cut the power on Sunday.

I only know it's installed by a Chorus guy. :D

Based on your comments above the answer is definitely no. Your connection is working as designed.

dont restart your modem unless you absolutely have to, it can affect performance.

all looks to be working as it should, just wait for chorus to change you to the new bandplan sometime before November, you should see a improvement in the speed from that.

the connection has been up 2 days, you have has VDSL installed for 2 weeks, its a difference.

what strikes me as a little odd is that the transit/receive power levels are low for the sync rate.  i wonder how vdsl performs with an adsl rather than vdsl splitter.  (maybe it'd cap upload more)

it's within spec, but obviously not great.  if you are close to cabinet, then maybe something's wrong.  also if you can trigger the higher power it may boost the connection too. (like plugging in an extension cable) - although probably just by a megabit or two.

the most disconcerting part to me is your ping.  it should be more like 6 msec within auckland with interleaving off.  if you've triggered dlm and there is interleaving (even though modem suggests there isn't) then that'll be taking away some of your speed as well. (but again probably only 10%)

it kind of does, if you ssh into it, but yeah not very user friendly. (xdslcmd info --linediag1 has it at the start)

The ping is fine if you are not on DLM-1

The broadband map for that area is a little screwed, and it looks like if your on one side of the road you could be connected to one cabinet/exchange and if your on the other you could be connected to a different one.

My flat is on a similar VDSL speed. The higher attenuation VDSL connections don't get as great of an increase on download speed sometimes only a Mbit or 2.
Vodafone tech support would tell you what your actual attenuation is if you really feel you need to know just understand knowing won't actually change your speed.

Please note: I have a professional bias towards Vodafone.

Cabinet side of road says fibre available so would presume on the exchange side in the third with no fibre.

21 down and 10 up I think you mean and what speed are you expecting?

Speed will vary on many factors as posted above
