So I got the Asus RT-AC68U, it says in PBtech it works with nz fibre and Vodafone says it should be plug and play...
My router WAN setting is saying "your ISPs DHCP does not function properly"; used quick setup; no auth, dynamic IP

Have you enabled VLAN 10 on the WAN interface? Don't know the exact steps for doing this on this particular router sorry. Have a poke around in the more advanced WAN settings.
Yeh mate, PB tech has a whole range of router instructions for NZ broadband - https://www.pbtech.co.nz/ASUSISPSettings
ISPs won't even try to help you, think it's against policy for them to bother
Good that you got it sorted. Those PB Tech screenshots were incredibly helpful for me when I was setting up my RT-AC68U.
It's probably onerous for ISP customer service to know how all the individual settings are laid out for every router. I'm with Spark and they have all the settings for non-Spark routers on their website but where you input those details seems to differ from device to device.
Also, if you are interested in flashing a new firmware at some point you could try Merlin. I've currently got Merlin running on mine along with a script called Diversion which blocks ads at the router.
