Chorus have just performed a site visit and it looks like despite the fact we've got a patch panel in the garage the existing copper wasn't placed in a conduit from the ETP. This means thay can't pull/push thru the fibre.

The landlord has assumed there would be conduit in the walls and doesn't want the walls drilled or visible conduit which is a bit of a problem.

We've tried testing the existing phone cable to see if it could be used as a pull-thru but it won't move so I'm assuning the run from outside the house is to the patch panel is too tight.

Any other ideas, or a recommendation for a sparky who might be able to run some cable through the garage roof when we don't have any crawl space?

Nope sadly not.

The Signet ST2000 Structured Cabling Pane is on the back wall of the garage. It has an

xDSL Splitter
8 port patch panel
8 port telecom splitter
TV/SAT splitter / amp

Most of the house has structured cabling but it looks like they didn't duct the wiring from the outsideA to the patch panel.

The ETP is next to the door of the garage and the house is two storey so no crawl space in the garage ceiling.

The ETP is currently here and there are no issues feeding the fibre from the road.

ONT Outside of house

For some reason they want to wall mount the ONT outside of the structured cabling panel.

ONT Position

I can easily tide up the panel to make room. The TV Distribution amp was moved so we could try to feed the fibre through so things look a lot messier than usual.

How far apart as the FTP And Panel?

What is the possibility of shifting the FTP point so that its nearer the cabling panel, I can see lots of lovely garden soil in that photo that looks perfect to dig up :)

Not a hope of getting from the front door of the garage to the back wall without going through the garage I'm afraid.

If this is a rental, won't the landlord at some stage need the fibre installing. Otherwise they may not be able to rent out the house as easily in the future if it doesn't have any internet. Surely it is the landlords responsibility to be sorting it out, and not your problem. I suspect it will need drilling somewhere. Even when you have conduit installed, getting the fbre in can be difficult I have found, if it needs to go around corners etc.

Hi exactly as CB says, can the ont live on the wall behind the etp, is there power to do that, If the ont is considered too obvious could a small in wall cabinet house it.

And lastly could and external cabinet with suitable security house the ont, if there are two cat5/6 cables one could be for data the other voice and power for the ont.

I have managed to successfully get two onts installed externally in similar situations.

No it can't be done.

There is no power any where near the ETP
There are no ethernet cable runs anywhere near the ETP other than the run for the phone line.
The ONT would have to be mounted just inside the garage door at a very exposed position.
Landlord has required we keep the Copper connection in place.

From the looks of things the builder ran a single Cat5 cable run to the ETP from the Structured Cabling Panel with no slack and then dry walled the garage.

It is about a 6m run from the front -> back of the garage and they are proposing running the fibre pinned along the garage ceiling.

If I were the landlord, I'd pay to sort it out myself. Lean on them.

Try renting out a house that cannot get fibre! In a fibre area too.

Hi, so the fibre they will want to run is the hybrid fibre/cat5e its has a white sheath and to all intent and purpose looks like a white cat5e cable. Based on what you are saying running the mentioned cable in trunking/capping) as in your post able) through the garage is probably the only real option.

In case future tenants want to go back to xDSL or want a traditional phone line - I kid you not.
