So I'm interested in a quote for a custom fibre install for a rural west Auckland property - I fully expect it to be high.

I contacted Chorus, who said I needed to get a provider to "submit an NGA on application" to them for the quote. Alright.

So far I've tried:

- Spark: said they no longer do these requests

- Stuff Fibre: could not do it

- Slingshot: said they could only do the request if I signed up and also mentioned something about corporate accounts

I've gone back to Chorus to see if they could indicate who I could go through, but they've said they're unable to advise because they are all their customers.

Any suggestions?

I get the feeling that ISP don't want to deal with this. Chorus have been pretty fast and detailed with their responses, but unfortunately I can't seem to deal with them directly.

Swanson. It depends what you mean by "close" - probably 200m, and that's not by road. It's entirely possible it's not feasible.

I can imagine the conversation goes along the lines:

Customer - "I want fibre, I know it will be expensive"

ISP - "Its going to be VERY VERY expensive, are you sure?"

Customer - "YES"

*Customer sees quote*

Customer - "Ok no thanks, bye"

how up now, you can find out how chorus plan to do it then do most of the work yourself. and have them just connect either end. Then at least you know where you are going from/to and if you are saving money or not.

We do them - we provide the initial estimate for free, but charge a nominal fee for administrating a full quote. We’re seeing about one NOA all the way through to completion each month, which isn’t much compared to the couple of requests we get each day for an estimate.

I am surprised that there is 1 person a month willing to pay that money

Thanks for all the replies, I've had a couple of generous offers for help in DMs as well. Am following up with Voyager to start with, but sounds like Full Flavour and 2Degrees would also be options.

It's a pity if ISPs are put off by the low number of estimates that follow through, I personally would be happy to pay a fee for the initial estimate, especially since I'm not an existing customer of any of the above options.
