Who is the best provider of 3G/4G data plans for home internet with a SIM card that can be used in a 3rd party router?

2Talk have affordable plans but only up to 50G, with endless data at lower speed.

Skinny have a low cost 120G service, but apparently the SIM card only works in their router.

Seems to me that for modest data usage, cellular internet is coming of age in performance, reliability and cost?

Are you rural? What kind of internet connection options do you otherwise have?

Mobile connections are often not as good.

Netspeed recently announced an unlimited RBI plan at $99 per month. They also moved my connection to a new SIM which allowed me to use it in my own router (this was in 2017-2018 ish). I'm not sure if they do this for everyone though.

Thank you ssamjh for that heads up .. those Netspeed plans are the best value I have seen .. they have plans 150GB per month upwards, and their SIM cards can be used in 3rd party routers.

I have been trialing a 2Talk plan and the performance is consistently good, but the Netspeed plans are more cost effective.

The current requirement is for home use, but I would venture to suggest that most small businesses have lesser needs for fast internet than home users, and that 3G internet represents a lower price-performance and viable position for some of those small businesses.

I wouldn't count on them allowing your own modem, just incase they've changed the policies since I was with them but no harm in asking.

Does anyone know if low cost Vodafone data-only plans are available either direct from Vodafone or via a reseller? I think 2Talk SIM cards are Skinny-based? .. I am looking for a low bandwidth service for remote data acquisition. It needs to be Vodafone network, otherwise the $15/mnth 2Talk slow-data plan would have been ideal.

The very first thing to do is compare the 5G signal on a Skinny/Spark and 2D/Vodafone handset. At our house, Spark barely gets 4G and has no 5G whereas Vodafone has good 5G. From memory, wife's Vodafone gets around 300Mbps on 5G whereas my poor Spark phone is getting a few Mbps.

2Talk offer a $15 +gst per month slow data plan which formerly used the Spark network, but now is using 2degrees .. just wondering if there are any other providers offering a SIM card for low cost Spark network with a slow data plan or an endless data plan?
