This is fascinating! I've been down my parents' street and most of the neighbours are getting 8-13Mbps, so perhaps a master splitter would be a grand idea for Mum & Dad - they could triple their speed. Interestingly, one house (which is super dodgy - it made the news a year ago when someone let off a firearm in it and then sparked a police chase) is getting 17Mbps which shows as exceeding their maximum available speed. Now I'm going to check my street.

Estimations are exactly that. who knows if they are tweaking, Have a perfect line pair or simply are lucky.

your parents could be on the unfortunate situation of having a really bad pair.

For my address it pulls 6mbit, This is a neighboring line that shares the same chorus address That is also just shy of 3 times the speed of mine Despite being far longer.

My pair is near perfect now, having a multiple that was on it dropping a few mbit outright disappearing. (cant see me complaining about that!)

If you would like a quick trial before committing, you could connect the modem up straight at the ETP clean line would be best case situation. - I wouldn't say a master filter itself is much of a cost though, think i have a couple sitting around here now.

The map is quite interesting to look through.

My in-laws have just moved into an apartment in the Clyde Quay Wharf building here in Wellington. The building itself doesn't even have any copper lines, fibre only. And yet the Chorus maps show the building as the availability being Planned by June 2017...

I certainly wouldn't take the maps as gospel, but my house is still a long way away from being given a connection and can't imagine that will change any time soon heh

Yes, the house directly behind them (technically their next-door neighbour) is getting 2MB so maybe there were some connection shenanigans when it was built in the 70's. I'm assuming the ETP clean line is the original phone line into the house? They've got it plugged into a jackpoint in a 1980's extension at the moment, which could be causing their problems.

That would likely come under a 'greenfields' installation, which i suspect the maps do not show.

The Chorus "for home" map used to, but it seems to be broken now as it's now reporting every address I've tried as having 100 Mb/s fibre!

Edit: Tried some other addresses and it's giving copper results. There's a chance that all my neighbours are on UFB without my knowing :)

Yep it's working again.  Looks like all around me now has fiber except for a box that consists of  a couple of streets  that I'm in and it looks like I'm out of luck until  June 2017..

Fiber map

Stupid search  tools has gone back to not showing anything again..  Just a blank page with "Please select an address" dropdown.
