Have you tried the magical 5min power off of the Fritz?

No dice :( Gave it lucky 7 minutes just in case that would make a difference. If anything it's worse. Now hitting 5900 FEC (bitswap hasn't come on yet so perhaps that's why)

in my experience FECs at large counts dont seem to alter DLM, but i suspect at DLM-1 they play a larger role, considering the 1ms latency..  less room for corrections to be possible...

So.... the moral of the story is:

If you want something done right (& in a timely manner), bl**dy well do it yourself!? :)

Mate, the new tool sounds awesome! :D I'm fine to beta test (7340, .22 firmware)

Yeah, it's more that back when I was running DLM-1 at 44/10, I had FEC of 100ish. Now with less sync and DLM-2 I have 60x the FEC count. Doesn't bode well.

if it wasnt for, i cant tell which ETP is mine (nor did i know that oh, actually we share a ETP and the other ETP is just forshow as such..)

next issue being, the ETP is about 3 stories high.. above a rickety overhanging which ild say even someone as tiny as me would go straight through it! but... thats their issue to deal with!

but yes, next time the "free installation" won't be considered even (gf is set on that one at this point too.).. if not myself, the great coffeebarron will be called upon, at the end of the day, the person who touches any new wiring in the next place, will be someone who i could happily not even be home and know that its done to at least my standard.. (which i dont feel is set too high at all.)

to further that, i honestly wouldn't be suggesting to anyone i know getting a vdsl installation to trust on chorus at all, recommending the likes of coffeebarron.

all i can say, is well ... done chorus, visionstream.. you have proven your incompetents for the last time for me.

take a look at my stats from my old place when i was running on a -30 snr tweak..

i base my information off the fact that my line was that bad, and still happy.

hio77:

hopefully everything is resolved tomorrow morning, and we can be booked for our new wire from the ETP (yes, we are only talking a new wire from the ETP here!) saturday or sunday and be able to actually use our vdsl connection 2 weeks after the installation!

as for the tool i have been working on, plenty of changes upcoming, everything will be graphable, recorded to a RRD file, also a few changes incoming for easier automation with things such as desktop manager showing the contents of a latest text file

On the positive note... where would your tool be if you had your VDSL connection since 2 weeks ago...

your brain would be like...
Brain: "I will start working on my tool first thing in the morning"
Alarm clock goes of in the morning:
Brain - "Ha-ha, It was a good one, mate! Lets take a nap till 12 it was late night on the new connection"

Anyway, the lack of technology is the fuel for the progress... :)

ha, actually the case you described above is close on what it is currently, same goes for project work..

oh, i should work on that.. right, time to upload and test.. *wait wait wait wait wait wait*, right now for a test.. oh look, connection dropped.

ah! that didnt sit right, back to the drawing board..

i have also come to the realisation, streaming all my music that i work to doesnt work very well when faults like this turn up.. back to keeping hard copies on hand. lack of music or other activity to keep me going, productivity goes right down the toilet.. i get distracted lol

recreational activities have also been practically stopped.. and so, my stress levels have been ever so on the rise even more so!

right, we are making more progress here!

turns out once again, tickets werent updated correctly.. and actually the access i was told i need to organize would actually end in an illegal install anyway..

so, apparently the tech has tested the connection from the etp, and come to the conclusion that my 049 is also naffed and needs replacing (im still questioning how this was done without anyone noticing, its not exactly an easy feat to get to the ETP.. but apparently it was only syncing at 5/2mbit)

so, orders have been put in for CAT5 to be ran from the place, along the outer walls to the ETP (thus removing the need for access).

and a fresh 049 is gonna be dropped from the pole, hopefully the same day. looking at maybe friday morning/afternoon - this is really dependant on times though since at the very least, i must be in town at midday for a few hours..

a full report on the job is gonna be written up this afternoon, then tomorrow morning times will be set!

My VDSL experience has been an ongoing saga.

I have naked VDSL, and had CAT6 directly from the demarc into the router, no other phone jacks installed, no master splitter/filter.

Snap said Chorus wouldn't look at my issues unless a master splitter/filter was installed and so i installed this into the demarc. Not surprisngly it made no difference.

Weeks later it seems my issue has finally been resolved (although there has been no clarification on what the problem was, it just suddenly got better);but i would like some clarification in regards to the need for a master splitter/filter.

In my situation am I better to have the filter in place or not? Snap insists it "cleans up the line", but had read in my situation it might be better to not have it.

I'd leave it there. A correctly installed splitter is definitely not going to cause problems.

So I gave it a long and hard thought on jumping back down from .51 fireware to .22 and I made the jump today.

I would to personally thank Chris from the Snap Support Team for helping me along the way of configuring my fritz box when I got it back up and everything...

So for the stats.
Before:

Forgot to take a picture of the Spectrum before but here's what it was from an old version.

After:

Pretty happy overall, requested the DLM to be reset to see if I could get off DLM 2 and maybe in the next 2 weeks I'll be tweaking it.

Edit: Also Line attenuation 0

Wow! That's a pretty marked difference! 2db attenuation drop and 5Mbit sync increase is not to be sneezed at!

If we ever needed any solid proof that .22 is better than .51, this is it!

wut? 0 attention?

i must point out, looks like you may have had a DLM move between thoses firmwares

that aside, your move does indeed look like another case you can note down as clear reasoning why the .51 firmware isnt worth touching.

once my line is sorted, i was going to do very much the same thing with my line, take settled stats, upgrade, take stats, downgrade. points of comparison to show clear signs of if the firmware indeed is the devil for short lines.

the one thing that does interest me, is your attainable on the upstream is odd on the .22 firmware, attainable being nothing more than a grain of salt mindyou.

out of curiosity, whats your distance from your cabinet?

and whats the distance electrically (assuming your fritz has telnet access available)
