I can get my full line speed there but you can't and we're only talking Sydney so that isn't actually a great result - I am talking about the US where I can also get my full line speed. Hence why currently it isn't worth the extra (in my case) $125 per month.

Yes! It depends on what you are doing with your fibre/hyperfibre. For normal home usage like Netflix, 500Mbps is more than enough. You need high speed to US. But I need high speed to AU an NZ to do my job and enjoy my game time with my boy.

Most of the time, internet users here will connect to NZ servers (Steam is good example) or nearest CDN in NZ/AU. You will not be distributed to US as you are far away from it.

But, US may be very important for you. Choose whatever you like, MyRepublic is not good at US. I am just providing test results of my hyperfibre and my routers for your reference. You are welcome.

Not me. I just have no need for it. With 5 people in my household streaming TV (usually just 1 - 3 streams at the same time), and me working from home, the regular fibre works just fine. From what I hear there is quite a bit of money involved getting ready for it as well.

That is the point I am trying to make - With my ISP I get great performance to almost anywhere but in every case with MyRepublic (even on Gigabit plans) it is fine to NZ and maybe Australia but everywhere else it is below average. If you're paying for a premium product, you're better to go with a premium provider especially with the money you've spent upgrading your network for it. It won't be long until other providers are on-board.

But thanks for the router comparison - I'm keeping an eye out for my next router.

I was using 2degrees, which has a good speed to US. But I also got a slow speed to Hong Kong and Japan. I don't know which ISP you are using now but there is no ISP with perfecrt speed to everywhere. For example, can you get more than 500Mbps to Beijing with your current ISP?

The truth is we need to make choices. This is very personal actually. What we can discuss is what those ISPs can provide to us, so we can choose what we need. MyRepublic might have bad reputation here, but I tried it and it was that bad actually, at least for me.

Yes actually - quite easily too.

But yes well said - as-long as you're happy. Would be interesting to see a comparison to Orcon.

It's amazing. Check what I get with MyRepublic.

It is not too bad, right?

But in real world, it's different. I(my company) have servral servers running in AWS Beijing with 10Gbps bandwidth. I tried Orcon, 2degrees and MyRepublic, none of them can let me reach 80Mbps when I upload file to my server or download from it.

It seems 2degress is faster form the results of speedtest, but I only got 500KB/s with 2degrees, when I tried to upload a file back to Beijing for our partners there. I had to use a VPN in AWS Japan to make it faster. That's why I asked you the question.

With MyRepublic, 7MB/s is the best speed I can get. To be honest, I didn't expect this until I tested it just right now. What a surprise! But it is still much slower than our speedtest results.

It would be great if more of us can be open mind, try diffrent optioins and share expereince and test results. I am a fan of high speed/performance, not any provider. :)

I didn't know you are going to Orcon. Hope to see your test resutls soon. Do they allow you to switch to bridge mode?

At least you have faster uploads to get back that 5 days per year!

Haven't asked them yet, hoping they do. Just want to get the install done first then will get them to request changes to bridge mode.

Currently I am on 2Degrees giga plan but have noticed most of this year speeds to AU hasn't been great.

With the ONT/RGW (still working on proper admin access, useradmin is completely useless) consistent 4Gig up/down. This is doing CLI tests with a Linux server with a 10G interface. Trying to use a (high end) laptop with a usb-c 5gig-e adapter just did not cut it.

Not bad, i'd blame @BMarquis for how locked down the ONT is, the third gen ont in RGW mode is the same.

to be fair though... when it's in that state, it does what it should.. it routes the packets at the right speed.

You can't even set the IP of the ethernet, that's not really acceptable.

We're certainly aware of the problem and it is an issue we are working on.

Unfortunately GUI changes need new firmware (we cant modify the GUI permissions via TR069 or config).

I will, personally, assist anyone who wants to change those values.
