How close was that switch to the Fritz? It'd be interesting to know if the interference was due to proximity or due to the cable between them. Also, I imagine they were plugged into the same mains circuit and that's certainly a possible route for interference.

10~15M of cat5E cable, basicly the direct opposite corner of the building.. it is also the same mains fuse, but the switch is currently plugged into the mains still, however i dont think it buzz's without anything plugged in, being a green switch turning itself off.

for a test of that, it is directly into itself, returning the buzz, ill capture some data, see the results.

just clicked to a point on this actually... it was plugged into another point over the weekend, which is on the same fuse circuit. will still run a bit of a test, but ild say it might be void.

It sounds like it's the ethernet connection then. Is your phone wiring cat5/5e/6 or just the old Telecom flat cable? I wonder if the phone line is picking up something from the ethernet cable. That could explain why the errors didn't return to quite the same level - the cables wouldn't have been in exactly the same position.

DSL is a straight connection from the ETP to the jackpoint, CAT6 as far as im aware. ran under the house

CAT5E to the switch, runs along the floor, only sharing the same space for a meter or so.

so far, its looking like it was carried over the cable itself. switch just working away...

i would have really assumed the dsl interface to not be affected so much by a network interface though.. but seems i have been proven wrong.

thinking now that that is resolved, i should look at getting DLM reset and see what happens..

so, with all these oddities, been tinkering with my tool a fair bit..

think i have the system almost perfected now, specifiable time frame also..

i will be making the counts into times rather than iteration counts too.

figure a system that can do error rates on the fly persay, could be highly useful in checking things out, without trying to work it out, or doing a clean reboot to reset all the fritz's counters - pretty sure you can reset these via telnet however.

looks like rates have increased a little.. might just be peak time spikes though..

still a lot lower than it was however..

Had an odd re-sync at midnight last night and a subsequent massive drop in CRCs.  However, that seems to have backfired as of this morning!

I've seen this kind of thing before, but I'm unsure exactly what's going on here!

well, having DLM reset now..

interesting thing however, they are making changes to snap plus apparently.. pushing an update out onto my fritz..

be interesting to see how the changes play out.. apparently i was due to get a phonecall about them

should have results showing up by tomorrow.. i shall eagerly await seeing that 1ms latency back!

so, still waiting for my DLM reset to actually go through - i expect my line should drop when that goes through?...

left my line monitoring for 10 hours, give a good test of both the line and the tool.. turns out i put CRCs and FECs around the wrong way.. not a big problem though.

rounding also got a little overlooked!

Standard Deviation - FEC Downstream: 102.94 Upstream: 9.46 CRC Downstream: NaN Upstream: NaN

looking like pretty happy error stats there compared to what i have been seeing..

Are you getting big FEC spikes? It seems odd that the upstream FEC average is 1.2 but the standard deviation is 9.5.

upstreams are rather uncommon..

your right though, it does seem a little odd..

seems every second minute on average, is a burst on the downstream, how to correlate that into a plausible issue im struggling to pick out however.

I think it would be more likely to be an artefact of the measurement in the Fritz - perhaps the process that gathers these statistics is running erratically for some reason. Maybe try a slightly longer interval, say 2 mins or 5 mins?

possibly.. im plucking it out of the direct total counter however.. which seems very second aware. also lines up almost the same as the firtz ui (in which is rounded.)

the variance seems to vary alot.

yep, 121, theres the upstream spike. they are very rare.. but do come every so often..

fair fit of jitter in my FECs right now too, school kids coming home and all i suspect..

double checked with snap, apparently my DLM has been reset, i always understood the port needs to reboot to do so, and so the connection would drop, but seems i was mistaken there.

so far, DLM doesnt seem to be playing its roll however.. guess im just too impatient!
