Lally: Appreciate the quick replies guys, something else I noticed was the Carrier Record, on the first page of this thread its mentioned that typically everyone has A43, whats the difference between A and V?
Using the 7360 Hio, it's mentioned to use the .22 version which I can not find on the AVM ftp sites.

cant say i have done much into the Carrier Record, thought it was pretty constant. what sort of DSLAM are you on? (it says on the overview tab)

I asked the Chorus tech to run cable to the jack point I installed in the room I wanted, he told me he couldn't do and to ask an electrician to do this for whatever reason.
So he ended up wiring the filter to the original jack point I was using.
The phone lines were star wired so not sure what he did to accomplish.

so he has installed the filter next to the jack? sounding like my ordeal all over again already...

the line between the original jack and your ETP, is that cat5? does the star now start AT the filter?

sounds almost like the filter is simply "inline" rather than splitting.

Sam, had a pots line still up until yesterday.

As far as I am aware, filter installed at ETP, I do remember him doing something at one other jackpoint in the kitchen and then having to go up and do something where all the lines met in the ceiling space. Im worried now it was a cowboy job to get it done quickly and then move on. I had asked Snap for clarification on what he was suppose to do and what they were billed for but am yet to here something back.

someone will have the offical quote around here..

but they are required to install a master filter, and run a fresh line of cat5+ from the ETP, terminated in a rj45 jackpoint.

Sounds like you need to do what you wanted to do to start with - new cat5 line from ETP to your router.

1.1, interesting.. normally see 0.1

its not one of the rare broadcoms that seem to crop up in the limelight every so often, so thats clearly not the difference.

carrier records are somewhat undocumented it would seem compared to everything else.

exactly this. if there was a reasonable reason for why they cant run the jack to where it was, no biggy eg cant get the cable to the point without more than a fair ammount of work.. but sounds like in your case it was another chorus tech trying to pull a fast one..

if you wanna open up the ETP and the points the tech toyed with and snap a few photos, we could probably give you a more definite answer on if its looking bad there..

Long story short, chorus tech didn't do his job it sounds like. They are paid to do a certain job and they have to do it. Althought they do try to get away with it alot of the time

atlest with what we see, i dont think alot of the time even covers it...

it seems to be more of a case of which contracting provider for chorus is for your area indicating how much of a likelihood a quick one will be pulled..

just be ready for the tech who did the installation to be sent back out to you.. it seems to be policy that if an installation is done incorrectly, the installing tech must fix it because they "know what they did wrong" - they never do though, nor are they happy about being back (IIRC, they are unpaid to return to fix it.)

leaves the question, why does it seem like these techs simply get a slap on the wrist and dont learn a damn thing? 5 more mins on the job, putting the extra effort that is expected in and it could save a second callout..

If I were you I'd TELL him what needs to be done. Be firm and accept nothing less than what you believe you are entitled to. If he still doesn't comply, get the name of his boss and make a complaint.

So Snap are going to get Chorus to return and wire up as necessary and are running a 12hr line test to check for issues.
Have to complement Snap on its customer service here, been nothing but very helpful on the phone.

Still working on getting around to the photos of inside the ETP, might have an old electrical screw driver set I could use to open.

There's a pretty good description of what the carrier records (AKA carrier sets) are here: https://www.iol.unh.edu/services/testing/dsl/knowledgebase/G.hs_v1.pdf. If I understand correctly they describe the frequencies and power levels used for handshaking during connection setup. I also found this: http:www.ieee802.org/3/efm/public/mar04/copper/MC-128R3.pdf which includes the V43 set that was added later in the spec.

So from that I think that while having V43 is strange, it shouldn't make any difference once the connection is up.
