Mark: I think I might toss a coin between Snap and Fyx.

Thanks for the tips!

Just switched from Slingshot to Snap this week.  Wish I had done it ages ago.  Have good physical speed thanks to cabinet just across the road, but Slingshot backhaul from Christchurch has major issues for the last few months, and my speed dropped from around 15Mb/s to an average of 2.5Mb/s, pretty much at any time of the day.

Switch over was painless - signed up online on Thursday, and Friday morning I had been switched over.  Had to call tech support to get help with modem settings, and they answered the phone after a few seconds at 7.45am!  This for me was confirmation enough that I had made the right call to change - this would be totally unheard of with Slingshot.

Speed tests since then have been consistently up around 15Mb/s again on Snap, and other bonus is interleaving off by default so very low latency (5ms to Snap's own Speedtest site, and 15ms to Vodafone in Auckland)

RamyElbeltagi: I would like to butt in and ask you to check out nakedplus
(new startup company)

I'm sorry but I don't find NakedPlus' plans competitive at all

Nakedplus naked 150GB is $137

Snap naked 155GB is $74.

Why on earth would I pay $756 + GST ($870) per year more than I had to

Unless I'm missing something here (quite possible :-) )

Cheers

Yeah you are right, Nakedplus is not aiming to be the cheapest in the market. They only supply business grade internet :)

(oh yeah and you get a digital Phone with all the advanced features included i.e simultaneous calling (inbound and outbound), voicemail to email, call transfer, 5c/min to Worldwide landline calling etc. which others normally charge a ridonculous amount for each feature)

You wouldn't happen to be reselling 2talk as a VoIP service by any chance? I had a look at the feature set and it looked very similar to 2talks feature set. :)

ha. it's a competitive industry, a lot of people are now pushing for a full feature set. Nakedplus are providing the features that are useful to households that are looking for premium product

p.s I am biased as I have shares in the company

No, it's 20GB per month with a one off 200GB "bonus" I believe.

Just had the old Xnet broadband killed on Friday and now going good on Snap. It's been remarkably smooth to change over and feels good when I hear mates moaning.

Snaps been super good with communication and support and the VDSL speed is as fast as I need at the moment. The Fritz box they offer is also pretty cool. Haven't had time to really get into it but it all looks great and can support the VOIP and NAS without getting over complicated with a million different features.

Just my 2 cents.

Cheers all!!

I talked to my father yesterday in the UK on Skype,  he said he had just moved to Virgin as an ISP, for 40 quid ( around $80 NZ) a month, he gets 140 channels, 60 Meg a second and no data cap,     Makes me feel like NZ is stuck in the 70's

Mark: Holy .. Snap have some serious data caps! 560GB .. yes please :-)

How are they for performance ? For that much data they must be throttling you somewhere ?

I find Snap excellent, no throttling as far as I am aware. I'm stuck indoors today, dealing with two sick girls at home. Both girls streaming seperate instances of Netflix and here is my current performance with the netflix streaming:

Geekzone Speedtest:

Hardly noticable.

PS: I'm in Waikanae, Kapiti Coast on Snap Naked DSL
