This is what Mt Eden looks like on the UFB Year 1 to Year 3 plan. I even have a school a few hundred meters away that isnt listed when you add the "schools/hospitals" to the mix. There are an awful lot of users in this area who wont have anything better than ADSL for a few years to come :(

I've never understood why the schools/hospitals and then business areas of the country (Auckland and Wellington CBD) didn't get UFB first. Defies belief that most of the CBD won't get UFB till next year at the earliest, but Whangerei is already mostly connected.

It doesn't really dely befief. It's actually quite logical.

Whangarei is a very small town the size of an Auckland suburb. It has a single LFC to cover the town. Wanganui falls into a similar category.

Chorus on the other hand have to cover priority users across the vast majority of the country with more schools in your average Auckland suburb than all of Whangarei.

I'm on MOD (direct via cross connect)
10M Sync - VDSL not obtainable due to distance etc.

Will be paying for UFB install when available, 10 people saying oh we want it now is not going to make any difference to the roll out schedule.
Also IMO MOD would likely be later in the roll out so that the FTTN cabinets that have been put in recently actually get some use.

We (Compass) have unbundled Mt Eden exchange and are looking to deploy SHDSL. Should be able to offer service speeds of up to 20Mb symmetrical.

Also depending on your distance you may be able to get VDSL, the coverage maps I have seen tend to be somewhat conservative.. so if you're right on the edge you may be ok with a well wired master filter.

Otherwise if VDSL or UFB is important.... Then look to move to a house in the coverage area.

ajobbins: Run an ISP out of your garage. I think Dotcom said Chorus ran fibre to his place for ~$100k. Do that, and set up your own wireless mesh network to distribute it.

Thats exactly what im doing. using ubiquity dish's to beam my ufb upto nearby massey. already got one guy whos dumping his dsl connection. using coovachili/radius to controll the access.
