If you're being served up ADSL broadband off the Mt Eden exchange, PM me.  Trying to figure how many of us in the area would connect UFB fibre or VDSL if it were available...

i'm off the exchange, too far out for VDSL, with no sign of UFB for 3+ years, and no more cabinets due. Know of around 10 others in the same position and trying to find out how many more there are... many people in the area work in IT, Tech, or in jobs that depend on IT, so are likely to be buyers for VDSL/UFB.

If you front up with $200k to Chorus they might build a cabinet for you! Smile

Got a customer in the same boat off Mt. Eden Road. They need VDSL2 at a minimum for offsite backup.

Run an ISP out of your garage. I think Dotcom said Chorus ran fibre to his place for ~$100k. Do that, and set up your own wireless mesh network to distribute it.

Meanwhile, on topic: how do you check your exchange?

I'm in morningside/western springs and know from past checks that I'm in VDSL area. Think its Mt Albert exchange now that I think about it...
Would love to pay the extra, but install costs just enough of a barrier together with one income/family budget issue, for the time being.

That depends entirely on what date your ISP has lodged a work request for...

There are always going to be pockets that miss out on VDSL2 on the edge of exchange coverage.

Remember the goal of the cabinetisation project was to deliver 10Mbps minimum to ~80% of the country. VDSL2 was pretty much a bonus for the 45% of so of premises that have access to it.

Existing P2P fibre is always a possible option in many areas, and there are plenty of wireless options in Auckland with the Sky Tower thingee.

I don't see VDSL anywhere in MT Eden, though I know this tool is wildly out of date for mt eden.

BCC is showing 27 VDSL cabinets in Mt Eden. I thought SAT used the same database so I'm not sure why you're not seeing any.

Well I just typed the addresses of 4 clients in Mt Eden (Near Mt Eden Road) none of them show VDSL, though I know there IS VDSL around there, as I had a client nearly switch mid last year. Turned out they were inches from availability.
