DarthKermit: Yes, only for UFB. The house won't be hooked up unless you or the previous owner have requested an installation.

These green pillars were used extensively for copper aswell. Not all of them are UFB.

OH is a non-issue for the providers who have their act together and have a VoIP service sorted out. From most accounts Orcons Genius seems to be rubbish but havent heard bad things about Snap's voip so they are probably the go for you if you want to get connected. Chorus will drop the copper and put up the fibre ducting.

- When the UFB network was installed they may have removed the grey pillar and placed one of the retangular green pedistals in its place (this practice depends on the availablity of space for the street funiture)

- So to answer your question - probably yes but not definiatley
- the UFB ducting network is only extended to the House when a request for connection is received from a provider to chorus - only ten is fibre taken to the house.

BTW these pedistals are no longer being installed in future builds - but have bveen replaced with buired microducting or a small round pit

That's probably a good idea: I've seen a number of them around Palmerston North with the upper cover smashed off.

Alright well in this case they are probably not carrying fibre. They are visible in Google Street View dating back to 2009.

We'll see what Chorus says when they assess the install!

By any chance are they Square rather than rectangular ? - if they are they will more than likely only have copper in them (left over from the cable TV days and where used for other purposes to use them up) - and if they are tubular they definatly only have copper in them

Nah I just double checked they are very rectangular and the grey pole is there in addition to them as well as a water mains blue pit.

I believe they are just used for copper and since the houses in the area are pretty new ( 4-5 years old tops ) they may have been using those green pillars for anything.
