Oh wow. What a nightmare.

Out of interest, just how the heck do they untangle which line is which in a situation like this? Do they have to put a tone on each line at the roadside one by one?

From the Existing Distribution Cabinet List on chorus it should be at
36 52 12.341 S, 174 36 15.615 E

nope cable are in 50 pair groups and are colour coded for each pair (circuit). Once you have IDed the cable then you have 50

they will probably tag each cable as they untangle the damaged cabinet to speed up the restoration process

btw looks like the fibre is still connected (the small blue cable right hand side when looked at the front )
but there isnt any power connection any more

Virgil: I wish someone would take out my one ... TAT/D ... i would happily go without for a week if it meant it was replaced with a nice shiney new one that did half decent speeds, or even VDSL ...

perhaps someone had that same idea and deliberately drove into it ;)

Was the chances of this happening a factor when they decided where to put cabinets? Would they move the cabinet?

Otherwise sink some massive posts infront of it so that the next idiot car driver wraps around that instead of the poor cabinet getting taken out.

There was a green TelstraClear box not far from me that used to get hit rather often as it was on the side of a driveway. They then bolted a bit steel bollard into the ground on both sides - I saw this also get severaly damaged on a couple of occasions!
