In our part of Glenfield, we won't get UFB anytime soon and we are just a bit too far to get VDSL. We'll be stuck with 13Mbps/0.8Mbps ADSL2 for many years to come :(

I would like to know why the chorus broadband map sucks so bad!

I mean, if you click on broadband, how are you supposed to tell between the brown colours what your speed is?
Whoever made this map should at least have chosen some obviously different colour markers.

Also, while I am ranting, I preferred the previous map that allowed you to click on the different service tags (e.g. VDSL, ADSL2, UFB).

So Chorus techs - if you are reading, please make it easier to see what service is available at my address !

Apparently it's really good if you have access to the non public stuff, but for whatever reason some moron at Chorus decided to dumb down the new map system to a stupid degree unless you have an ISP login.

Try using http://bcc.telecomwholesale.co.nz/ which has much better detail, but as I understand it is no longer updated with current information.

Lol @ Lias - yes, you're right - classic example of a techy trying to do design UI stuff (fail).

Yeah, I've looked at the telecom map and it says no VDSL at my property but I am getting different responses from service providers - for example, World Exchange are saying, YES you can get VDSL - whilst others e.g Callnet say not sure without an order to put through and Slingshot say No !

So clearly - no one has got a clue!!

Rubbish map, innacurate data behind it, confused ISPs, consumers and businesses that bear the brunt - again.

Agreed, the map is pretty lame. If WXC say yes, go with them!

oh you poor person.  i'm at the far reach of the exchange (no cabinet for me) and stuck with 7mpbs ADSL till they develop some dates for my area.  Apparently Mt Eden is in the middle of nowhere too.....

There is no confusion because there is only one source of data that is used by all ISP's - the Chorus prequal tool which uses their Netmap database.

If you're seeing conflicting results then the same information isn't being entered by different parties.

I disagree, The chorus map seems to have been redesigned to focus only on UFB.  Even the Kordia map is hopeless - though probably not meant for consumers, koordinates.com/maps/BroadbandMap/

I can't seem to find the other, simple map (which I think is much easier to see the results on) - except on this site http://www.callnet.co.nz/internet/check-availability/

I'm surprised that you would think people would put different information on different maps, I don't think that's the issue.  I think it's just typical of techies doing a bad design job!
It's all very well promoting UFB, but for most people it's a pipe dream - even getting VDSL is proving difficult for most.

Sigh

BiddleCorp was referring to the the Chorus pre qual tools that the ISP's use, these aren't public I'm afraid.

.. but yes the publicly available Chorus map on their website is pretty useless compared to the old one. There was a good thread at the time they changed it complaining about it, Chorus took the feedback but made no changes so we can only assume making the map less useful was an intentional change.
