Unless you have a master filter installed your current line stats could easily be misleading.

What does the Chorus map say? Are you in a 20Mbps+ coverage area?

Yes in a vdsl area and yes line comes in, swaps from twisted thick copper to cat5, drops down the wall and into a socket with splitter, no other wiring or phones until after the splitter

sheppy: I'm 0.78K away from the cabinet according to "map my walk" and I've currently got ADSL2 from Telecom. The last speedtest I did suggested I was getting 13.1MB Down and 1MB up.
Can anyone give me an idea of how much faster I can get if I switch to VDSL?
Most of the cable is UG but the 130M down the drive is overhead on the power poles


If you aren't getting anywhere near the 25Mbps that ADSL2+ is capable of, you won't get any faster with VDSL. Put in a master splitter and see if you can get closer to 15Mbps with that.

DS Attainable Rate : 15660000 bps according to the stats and that's with a master splitter so does this mean VDSL won't be that much faster in reality if it works at all

I was syncing at 16mbit on ADSL2+ with 12db snr 10db attenuation and I'm getting 40mbit also with 12db snr on VDSL 11db attenuation

That's very interesting, I'm at 12db att and 12db snr so on that basis it sounds like a worthwhile upgrade. At the 20-21 quoted by telecom it wasn't really worth it in my mind but something towards 30meg would be worth doing. Thanks for the info

Just signed up to VDSL with Snap, will post how it goes.
Almost stayed with Telecom but Snap offered more Data and a better router for a slightly cheaper price if I signed up for 24 months

I reckon you've made the right choice :) My *guess* would be you'll see close to 30/10.

My attenuation on ADSL was 9/10; on VDSL it is 12 and I get 37/10 with standard target SNR margin.

Order placed and due for install Friday afternoon, Snap very helpful on the phone although it often takes a while to get to the front of the queue.
Telecom cut my broadband off on Wednesday evening despite the install not being due until friday afternoon and when I called them they basically said tough luck, nothing we can do.
Snap can't bring forward the install so I've got no Internet for almost 2 days.
Thanks a bunch Telecom, despite the good service to date, even if Snap screw up I'll not be returning to you or recommending you to anyone of my friends!

Did you ask telecom to cut your broadband?

Because if the order came through from SNAP saying they're taking over the connection may have been cut that way. It's unfortunate but this happens alot when switching providers.

No, I just naively left Snap to deal with it assuming that as the appointment was booked for Friday afternoon that it wouldn't go off until Friday morning at the earliest

It's Snap, not Telecom, you should be grumpy with then. As far as Telecom are concerned, you've transitioned to another ISP. It's not their fault your new ISP hasn't actually set you up yet.
