I've been going through our corporate Vodafone (ex Telstra) account to get residential UFB (company provides all employees with xDSL or anything that's available). Apparently the area wasn't within Vodafone's network (whatever that means in respect of UFB). Install of Chorus-provisioned connection was a possibility but not "this side of 2013" I went with another provider.
An interesting bit is one of friends whose wife works at Vodafone. He was able to get a complete install of UFB, including digging a trench, done about 3 weeks ago at no cost. The no cost extends to a 3 month "trial" of completely free, no limit, SKY included UFB. So go figure.
I saw one of those trial ones too, but I understand the ONT had already been installed before they moved in (think it was a new house) so had been installed in lounge about 3m away from nearest data outlet. Installer had put in the easiest possible place instead of the data cabinet, apparently without thinking it needs to be sensible.
