Yes VDSL is not available to us at this address. We are 1.2km on the shortest pair.  There seem to be plenty of people at 1.2km getting working VDSL but we accepted some time ago that was not an option.  I think Chorus made the call based on the knowledge of the local lines.  Chorus offered to check if VDSL would work for us if we paid for the tech to come out.  We said yes we would pay then Chorus said no were not going to try it.  Where the change of heart came from I have no idea.

My comment on VDSL was based on the economies of installing a couple of extra road side cabinets, fixing cables where required and using the existing copper feeds into the properties.  Your still going to get around 30mbs down 5-10 up and without the extra cost of laying a whole new network.

It may be worth trying to contact Amy Adams.

We where also being given the run around by chorus. In a early point I contacted the TDR and that was there opinion on who to contact when you had an issues directly with chorus.

Its worth a try.
One thing to note is even if you email you will only ever receive a reply from the minister via post so it does take some time to get a reply.

Thanks that's a good idea.  Someone else suggested that.  Also our local MP...oh that's right it's JK...

Another good day for Chorus.  Since I will be paying Chorus for a copper service they won't provide maybe I should buy a reel of CAT6 and run my own line up the road.  Cheap reliable and no tax payer subsidy required.

Silly me, sounds way to sensible.

Having a look at the repair history on the cable segment you are connected to, it shows an abnormal number of faults.

Have flagged this to the Service Delivery Manager at Chorus who looks after West Auckland.  Will instigate an audit and come back with what we find.

Will get back to you later this week with an updtae.

Thanks for the post Chorusvan and looking into the state of the cables round this area.  I believe Full Flavour will be in touch with you too.

Some extra detail for you.  We moved in here 23 years ago and at that time we had a lot of problems with our landline.  The solution then was to swap our line to one of the neighbours who was less likely to complain.  This went on for many years.  In fact checking our landline today, it has loud buzz and crackling on it.  Par for the course when it rains.

So sadly after 23 years the same thing is going on.  These faults are not just recent, they go back at least 23 years.  Hence winging about the cables round Whenuapai.

Cheers
Andy

My support goes to you Andy, I've been mucked around by Chorus for only a year, but I feel your pain.

Now that your issue is up in public, would love to see if it gets fixed.

Maybe that's the way to go, get a page in Herald and post long lasting issues for resolution :)

Earlier this week another chorus tech made another visit and found a pair that gave me good speed with no drops ADSL.  He wouldn't say where he found the good pair.  History suggests at the expense of one of our neighbours.

However I knew it was too good to last.

Yesterday, Friday, when I was out, Chorus fixed our noisy landline connection.  I can guess how.  Our new separate naked ADSL connection which was finally sorted earlier this week is now back at 3.5mbs rather than the 16mbs we had a for a few days.  So no points to guess how they fixed our landline, yep, took our good naked dsl pair.

And so we go round again.

Chorus, I am back where I was 9 weeks ago thanks to more stuff ups and you still wont admit to needing to do anything with the cables round here in Whenuapai.

Gosh your a sad bunch of people.

A good film to watch today would be Groundhog day.

Does anyone have an internal contact at Chorus who deals with fixing faults. The tech who came in Friday stuffed our ADSL connection an he is not answering his phone or messages.

Is the cost of moving covered by the UFB install subsidy?  Could be a goer.

Those times they need a "Hate" or "Undecided" button as well.
