Obviously interest from them in setting up an operation in Pukekohe to take advantage of the local fibre network.....from what I have heard they tend to think outside the box...so may be interested. I also asked them to spread the word as they may know some other company etc who would be interested...

Also from whats been said here the change of a "switch" would make at least 2 Gbps available for local business and residents and for that you can expect to pay the old $99.99/month....Rgds....Laurie

There is no way in the world a 2Gbps P2P service could be made available for $100 per month.

No you have missed the point I was making...see the reply from "wired" about changing a switch from P2P to GPON etc.....being very easy to do etc.... thats what I was referring back too...so according to that it is possible to change this to the GPON type system  and then yourself regards the two speeds available on that...then later 10GPON is mentioned..etc...

So from my point of view it does appear to be doable having read info from both yourself and "wired"....Rgds...Laurie

You typically can't just change an entire network architecture to be GPON - it's a lot more than just swapping out a switch.

Sorry but just no.

You can't just swap a GPON connection to P2P. P2P to GPON maybe but it is not just a simple 'switch'.

In NZ, schools are probably the only places it is possible to switch between GPON and P2P but it is most definitely the exception and not the rule.

Wow the biggest reverse NIMBY story I think I've ever seen on GZ!

Maybe you should petition CP to provide lower prices if you can sign-up enough people for their service, rather than ask your local MP to change National legislation and commercially tendered agreements.

Actually not a bad idea, its all about getting sufficient numbers in one area to cover the cost of rolling out the network.

It might also be possible to convince government to work on a network sharing arrangement between Chorus and CP, because the CFH agreements did include an option to lease existing assets instead of overbuild -- I think.

I suspect that CP cabinets would be covering wide areas so might not have space for a full scale deployment, however P2P has a reach of 10km so active equipment can still be centralised with "home-run" fibre if its designed that way. While its not simple to change an existing network including end-user gear and clawing back a return from existing investment, P2P (active) links in a PON splitter cabinet can still be patched into spare uplinks to the main (active) cabinet to provide a business-grade service over the same fibre. There is usually not so much uplink fibre to go around so Chorus charges more for P2P, even though costs for large scale P2P would only be 20% more than PON (heaps more patching and network cards).

Time to find a new industry!
