linw: Can you tell us what the students are asking for?

Let me see. Unlimited data, free calls, no sign up cost, no contract, and all for $0. Sounds like a plan!!!

Where did you see no sign up cost? Despite saying there is no "connection fee" it'll still cost you $149 or $249 for a "signup fee"

Makes you wonder why it says 'free to connect' in their logo? I initially assumed connect is when you signup to connect to their services? Although on the plan page it says Connection fee $0, and signup on a 12 month contract is $149, on a 12 month contract. What is the difference between a connection fee and a signup fee, as with other ISPs they are the same thing, but in this case it appears to be different?

You got me wrong, Steve. Sorry, I was really talking to the OP. I was reflecting on the 'Student' Plan that asks the students to tell Tt what they would like in a plan. I wasn't trying to be snarky - just curious what the students would ask for!

This is something being worked on right now currently idea; is to offer students unlimited data, naked, nine month contract,  with no signup and monthly charges less than $50.00

naggyman: Argh, the spelling and grammar errors on your site are infuriating!!!!! It isn't that hard to use spell check. Even your geekzone signature is wrong.

"how we get their is up to us." SHOULD BE "how we get there is up to us."

I am Dyslexic my friend. you will have to bare with me on that one!

With the greatest respect for you and your disability, but no-one going to the site will know, nor likely care. They will take one look and be gone.

The strength of a good manager is knowing their weakness and having someone take that over whilst you focus on your areas of strength.

I know money doesn't grow on trees for this sort of thing, but if you don't do it, you might not have any trees to grow money on!

Student Job Search is a reasonable place to start, grab someone who is doing a degree in literature or similar perhaps.

So

$249.00 fee wthout(sic) contract
$149.00 fee with a 12 months contract

Then you say $99 on open term so when someone leaves your service say after 6 months (on no contract)  they have to pay $99 extra just to leave?

What happens if someone on a 12 month contract leaves? Just pays the contract out?

Isn't it better for all users to just sign up for 12 months contact and if they leave after 6 months just payout the rest of the year as they'll pay a total of $149.00 for the contract or if they go to the open term it'll cost them $348.00

That's fine print which applied to the old free plan. either web dev hasn't updated the footer (or your browser has a cached version of the site) I'll have it checked out for you.

*1 signup is $249.00 without a 12 month contract and $149.00 with a 12 month contract, their is no termination fee for open term.

** Calls are capped at 1 hour, afterwards you're charged per minute by Orcon
*** Vodafone national calls are capped at $2.50 for 2 hours

Information gathered on the 6th November 2013
"

Please.. there != their

Can you tell me why someone would sign up with a no contact term over a contact term? What is the termination fee on the contract term? There is no financial gain for the customer to sign up with a no term contact term if to get out of the 2 month contract is to pay it out.

I presume that if it doesn't mention termination fees, there are any. Their signup fee looks like the sort of fee other ISPs charge for termination, so that may cover it?

Personally I see no difference and TT make it a point to differentiate this? So what is the difference and if there is non why make a point of it. An Apple is an Apple even if you call it something else.

Well interesting concept but it is not actually get entirely free service because we are supposed to use the landline to make calls (paid per call and not per second say so only interesting if you stay very long on the phone which is rarely the case especially if you reached a voicemail).

When you click on the "Things to be aware of" we can read this:

Free internet access conditions:
Please be advised that Terrible Talk's free internet and phone plan is designed as a full service plan.

it is not a naked broadband plan, or naked phone plan.  Also be advised that our Fair Use Policy applies. Fair Use is determined from average usage by customer profile as well as estimated residential use of these plans. If you breach this policy we may ask you to moderate your usage. If you fail to do so, we reserve the right, without further notice, to charge you for the excessive element of your usage and/or remove the service from your account. The following uses would be considered to breach this policy – business use, automated call messaging, monitoring services, broadcast fax or outbound call centres. using your free connection as a naked broadband line.

With $249 "sign-up fee" (no contract) + $1.5 or $2.5 per call, this can become more expensive than what originally thought...

But I understand nothing is free, it is just another way of charging for a service. It is unfortunate that if you only want broadband, then it cost more than Snap (and Snap do NOT have any sign up AND/OR connection fee).

Otherwise with no sign-up fee for say 24m contract or $99 for 12m contract, this could be an interesting offer.

"We have 37 staff in our call centre; 6 account managers and a management team directed by Terrible CEO, Albi Whale. "

I cannot believe an ISP your size can possibly support that level of call centre. you just cannot have enough customers to cover those costs.

I think You've misunderstood.

Yes the sign up fee is $249 without a contract, yes it's $149.00 with a 12 month term. Yes we do charge per call (by default) however we do not charge for any NZ landline call local or national, I agree this should be spelt out clearly as at present it is not.  Snap will only wave sign up fee if your on a two year contract, or use the plus phone system. However they expect that you pay for the hardware (which is $275.00+)

Our sign up fee actually covers the cost of provider your router. That is to say we'll give you a wireless preconfigured router for that fee. We don't expect you to already have one. So if you look at the attached picture showing snaps monthly cost on the right and sign up fees in the middle your notice that we are actually cheaper.

Terrible 12 month term
50GB all smart features and unlimited NZ landlines is =$75.00/pm + $149.00 sign up (ADSL, OR VDSL includes router) total cost = $224.00

Snap 12 month term
50GB all smart features and unlimited NZ landlines is =$99.00/pm + $49.00 sign up (ADSL only) + $275 + $15 shipping for the router total cost = $438.00

Snap Plus 12 month term
50GB all smart features and unlimited NZ landlines is =$85.00/pm + $0.00 sign up (ADSL only) + $275 for the router + $15 shipping  total cost = $375.00

Edited to add

If you'd like we will drop the sign up fee and charge for the hardware instead?

It's a free service is the sense that if your usage stays within the free limits (less than 10GB and you just call NZ landlines) then all your ever pay is the signing fee which as mentioned covers the cost of providing you with a router.

We can pick holes in this as much as we like, but right now for someone who can't afford internet and is likely to be a low user, this is a good deal. Whether or not it's sustainable, time will tell.
@TerribleTalk any chance the sign up / connection / hardware / whatever you want to call it fee could be paid over three months?

Thanks for the clarification.
So with the $75 plan I get free Local AND National calls right? Therefore $1.5 (international landlines) and $2.5(NZ and international mobiles) are fees per International calls or mobiles only then, and it makes more sense, this is actually a good deal!

But I feel that saying International Landlines and International Mobiles is clearer and I personally prefer to see the hardware charge (with a picture and model of what I get for this price) rather than just a "sign up fee".

If the "sign up fee" is only there to cover the costs of the equipment, do you offer the possibility to bring our own hardware to connect for no setup fee if we already have everything (i.e. a Fritzbox)?

Looking carefully at the $75 vs $95 plan, $75 plan is free local calls only & $95 plan is free local + national calls. So as long as you stay under 10 GB per month, then you could go on the $95 plan and have free internet + free local + free national landline calls (up to whatever the per call time limit is)
