Fibre optic is fairly strong. Just dont bend it. It is woven with a fabric like thing around it. Almost like a bungee cord you could say.

Yup, the way fibre optic is manufactured, tensile strength of glass is actually stronger than steel. As you say, just don't bend it too much as it will hinder the transmission performance or even break. Just as any ceramic, tensile strength is high but it is brittle.
