This is near where i expect a FDH to go in, but i thought it was interesting that the conduit was split/cut into.

Those are what they blow the fibre through to the end user, Each one of those clear tubes will carry optical fibres to say 1 street and go all the way back to the exchange.

I'm under the impression they go back to a Fibre Distribution Hub, into an optical splitter/prism and then go back to the exchange? At least thats my understanding for GPON's basic system.

Little green box on street i believe is where the local fibres terminate. From there its back to the exchange on a backhaul? Similar to how a cabinet works i think. Each network would vary of course but from Wikipedia it reckons that.

yep those are damaged and will be cut away when joined through or terminated

That video is of a Micronet Blowing tool - that is the one that is used to 'blow' the larger size blown fibre cables (48 fibres up) through te bigger tubes - 11mm + / Between Exchanges, Commercial sites, Cabinet or FAT sites etc / One of the larger tubes is in the middle of the 26way in the photo, already added to this thread, and can be seen already joined in the middle of the smaller tubes

THe 'blowing gun' for the smaller tubeing (3 -8mm) looks more like a cordless drill/packing tape gun combination - This video shows an older model http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMFvTFOn-HA

I agree. The photos show tubes about 3.5mm across so they are the tubes that are used into each premises from the roadside cabinet. The tubes that go back to the exchange from the cabinet are larger, about 10mm in diameter.

They can blow a 12 fibre cable into one of the small tubes and a 144 fibre cable into the larger tubes.

They can blow up to 48f. They have 48f that are smaller OD than Cat6

Well 1 copper wire anyway....
used so the conduit can be traced as plastic and glass is kinda hard to trace.
