So does that mean if you want to renew the .nz domain when the first year is up, it will be at the higher price??

1) Yes, that's because it's a special price, which is why I mentioned previously about if it was still at the special price of $19.99 at the time of renewal....
Plus, it doesn't mention anything about it being one year only, in their "product limitations" at the bottom.

2) So if I keep paying in NZD at the renewal (and the special is still there), then one should normally assume that you will pay that $19.99 price for another year's renewal?

Where are you getting this info from though?

The domain pricing charts from godaddy.

That is quote common for overseas companies to price this way. They are probably selling the domain initially to you at either cost or a loss, and hope that you will stay with them and pay the full price when it comes to renew it. Their pricing does also show that .nz domains can only be registered for 1year initially, and when I tested it, it would only allow me to register it for 1 year for the initial registration. Whereas with most other providers you register nz domains for upto 10 years.

But for the OPs needs, they should go with a NZ provider who they can contact 7 days a week if they need to, as businesses really need 7 day support for this sort of thing. A provider would be able to both renew domains and generate a UDAI days a week imho.

Did the OP get an invoice for the domain renewal? Sounds like the original problem was that somebody didn't understand that renewing a nearly-expired domain can't be left till end of the month. FYI, if you are not happy with the Woosh service then just about every ISP and web hosting provider can register a domain and keep it current. If they are more of a residential ISP they will likely block the domain if registration fees aren't paid, because you might have planned to cancel or move the domain hosting.

Time to find a new industry!
