Thanks for the pics!

This definitely counts as a first world problem; complaining about a UFB 'horrible green thing' sprouting up in your neighbourhood.

Having zoomed up on them once I got home I realised I should have taken one standing on their side of the road, a little down the hill from the transformer, to see the alignment of them to the boundary marker...

EDIT: I guess I'm sort of glad in an odd way that I live in a country where this is the sort of thing people feel they should complain about, but I'm also a bit sad when it gets coverage like this from the media.

With Chorus saying they are satisfied that the pillar is completely within road reserve and the property owners saying according to their survey it's 150mm over their boundary I wonder how likely different surveyors would get different results and if Chorus are right does the retaining wall end up on road reserve?

There are 2 down the road from me and they have no issues with them. I think we should be complaining about power poles rather than these.

I wonder who's survey marks Chorus based the location on? Was the network build designed around the old survey marks or new ones?

Chorus are welcome to put one outside my house right now!
I am in New Windsor Auckland and Chorus said to my next door neighbor two days ago he was surprised we could get ADSL as we are so far away from the exchange and really old copper cables. We get really slow connections ( 2m - 4m ) and he is constantly dropping hence the Chorus visit.
We are not getting a cabinet and will be 2019 at the earliest before we get UFB in our street.

Between two identical houses, one with UFB and one without - I would choose the house with fibre. Not sure how much more I would be willing to pay but, even at $0 the owner would still sell the house faster.

If the other house had VDSL, it might not make much difference, but if it only had ADSL1 or worse, no broadband at all (too rural or on a full cabinet with no ports) I can see how it would make a difference.

I would only ever buyy a house now that could get at least ADSL2 AND was due for UFB within 3 years

Just showed the three photos taken to someone asking them if they found the green pole intrusive. They actually wasn't sure what i meant by pole, and barely noticed it until i pointed it out.

I wouldn't be surprised if most people, including those who might be looking at buying a home wouldn't notice it either.
