It technically has been since day one - and was quite central to the big divorce spat between Annette Presley and Malcolm Dick.

No that is not normal, and those wires will be giving a very poor connection.

I have seen VDSL being slower than ADSL, but that was out at the very fringe of VDSL coverage area.
Your download is slower but the upload is much better.
Anyway, you should have a nice connection when some qualified installers replace the wiring

Thanks for your reply. I have requested 2Talk check the line, and get a competent Chorus technician to see its all connected correctly.
I got 2Talk to check the line before i moved to VDSL. They gave me a median line upload and download speed of about 28Mbps / 10Mbps and said the line had low amounts of noise.

So its quite freaky to see such slow speeds! As i understand it there is 60Mbps/10Mbps at the cabinet (200metres away - LOS) (but have no idea how old the cabinet is, or quality etc)

They put this thing in, which is also badly jointed and stuck together with insulation tape.

I found a technical PDF, with the model number of the splitter. I know enough to be dangerous.

It says blue/white to phone, orange/white to line, green/white to modem.
Blue/white is going to the modem. (Its naked DSL, with 2Talk SIP). So wonder how/if this matters much.

I doubt one should have to do this much troubleshooting for a paid Chorus beaten-up-sedan-install, lol!!

I wish it were. We were burgled recently, so you can imagine how it feels to come home with two no-names wandering around your house.
It completely put the 5h1t.s up me!

Funny thing though... he had a "trainee" with him...!!

Wow, yes that would cause major issues. The filter will be filtering out majority of the frequencies VDSL/ADSL needs to function well.

Surprised its working at all!

I am really surprised that you even had any DSL wired this way. If you want to give it a go, strip back the green/white wires of the master splitter and connect to the ones that are connected to the blue/white at present (going to your router). Even if you make a hash job of it, you will be one step ahead of those cowboys.

the cat 5 is "taped" onto two copper wires. I dont know how much loss you get? but it cant be good.
Am thinking of removing the splitter entirely to see what it does.
With any luch 2Talk / Chorus will respond in the morning with a solution.

In your Pic it's the green/white thats connected to the white/blue in the cat5e cable (or is that cat5 for your existing jkpts?) either way even if you think you can fix the wireing I would recommend you leave it as is untill the Chorus Rep and/Or Service Tech look at it.

sarcasm aside, im speechless. ducktape, stripped wires.. i suppose atlest they used cat5 and not twine?

why they showed up, not even suited up, no tools or anything further pushes the point of a new low.

clearly the experienced tech needs to go back and get some real training too, how this tech was even considered ready for training is a joke.

i just.. not even words to describe it.

i guess on the upside, clearly visionstream found a way to cut some more costs? lol

Fixing it will probably fix the performance issue (as it's wired the wrong way), but if I were you I'd leave it there in the mean time. Some serious butt kicking will be occur as a result of this and people may want to see the work in person.
