action 55, there is a spreadsheet someone posted somewhere on Geekzone which has phone prefixes versus exchanges.  Have a look around.

xlinknz, your connection speed is at maximum for dsl1, so you will definetely get alot faster connection rate when you get 2+ I would think.  But the speed at which data comes down that pipe depends on how much of a connection the exchange has and how many people are using it at any one time.  You will probably get low download speeds during the day, but if you tried it at 3 am, you would probably get something like 6 meg or more.

For a very basic example, say you have 100 people on an exchange (or DSLAM to be more accurate).  All with 10 meg connections (yeah right), but only 100 meg feeding them at the DSLAM.  If everyone is online at the same time downloading hard out maximum they can, then they will only get 1 meg each.  If only 1 is online downloading at max they will get the full 10.  So it's basic math pretty much.  I'm sure it's much more complicated (for example, you surf and even download in bursts, there are overheads etc) but you get the point.

I like using the garden hose example.  The hose itself is your connection and may be really big, but how much water goes down it, depends on how big all the pipes that come before it are, and how many people have patched into it etc.

Oh well, that's enough of me vaguely sounding like I know what I'm talking about!
