Personally I think tail extension for any UFB/RBI fibre product should be available they way it is for ADSL/VDSL that way RSPs/ISPs would not have to have a POI in 32 exchanges (I think that is the number of UFB areas)

That would be great but unfortunately Chorus and the LFCs are not permitted to offer these.

i could see the sense in requiring ISPs to have POPs in the exchanges, but for RBI type connections, where theres a different LFCs for the area, i would kinda expect exceptions to be made..

by that logic though, is POP hardware really that limited that they cant connect to two LFCs?

plambrechtsen: And just a heads up, it seems Telecom isn't listed on that page. Although we do have many handovers across the country. I believe that is being worked on.

So would Telecom offer Coromandal RBI Fibre community connections with the POI at the main exchange in Tauranga and would ringing/emailing Telecom get a reply to my enquiry?

I've found out some further information about this, please email me "pl at telecom.co.nz" to take this offline.

Chorus don't actually own a National IP backhaul network, the network that carry's DSL traffic from the nearest POI to a remote RSP handover, if the RSP does not have a local handover, is actually carried over Telecom's National Network and is built as a agency service sold to RSP's by Chorus.

Its either referred to as Tail Extension, or UBR - carried over Telecom's ATM or Ethernet backhaul network, these products were all developed when it was just Telecom under Telecom Wholesale.

UFB is also a completely different network, and is highly unlikely to ever have a tail extension product like DSL has, well from Chorus anyway, a few major RSP's have wholesale products that can do this for smaller RSP.
