Epicwhale: Thanks for the support,

I've contacted my ISP (Bigpipe) about this and I'll probably post here with the results.

Now ill probably get shot for saying this.
Bigpipe dont provide master filter installs. Without one you wont run VDSL given your current line. If you can run it will be extremely degraded.

Hey, I just had a look.
basic address check prequal comes back positive, so you can go ahead and request a plan change with us via our support form.

We may find the order gets rejected - sometimes this does happen as pre-qual isn't an exact science.

As TimA says, we don't include a Master Filter, and given your distance from exchange it is *highly* recommended you get one fitted to achieve the best performance from VDSL (unless you already have one).

Its a pretty good idea to get one anyway, as you will likely get benefit from it even without VDSL.

ETA: one of our team is running a full manual prequal for you, so that will give you a much better idea.

Are there any guides on how to manually install one (filter)? I can't seem to find any.

Generally not suggested to do yourself. I couldnt advise myself but you can buy them from trademe and they come with basic diagrams.

Just get an electrician around to do it. They're pretty easy to install but its a good idea to leave it to the experts.

If your going to do it yourself make sure you buy a Vdsl master filter and not a Adsl one as they are different (ones on trademe that I found only seem to be the ADSL standard filters and not any master filters)

If you do leave it to the experts I would not recommend getting an electrician but either a telco tech. or a data cabler. Some electricians know about phone wiring but in my experience a lot of them don't as it's not there line of work.

You could possible try and book a Chorus tech as they will have the right filter and definitely know what they are doing. BigpipeNZ may have contractors in your area they can suggest?

Bigpipe has emailed me back with sad news saying that Chorus checked and it's not possible.

Suppose I'll have to hold out until 2017.
