I thought the companies were still kept separate within Vodafone. That fact that I can't login to my account on the Vodafone website shows I am still on a separate system.

File server = Junk PC with lots of drives.
NAS = Expensive piece of slow transfer storage device.

A bit off topic... In any case both a file server and a NAS have their place. If I didn't want to run Hyper-V specifically I would be happy with a NAS. In general modern NAS appliances aren't "slow transfer storage devices". Most of the NAS models I had around here lately are as fast as my HP Microserver when it comes to file transfer.

In timA's specific case he discussed his "NAS" before and we came to the conclusion it was an old underpowered, low memory, low throughput network interface NAS. So one NAS experience doesn't mean all NAS models behave like that.

Now back on Vodafone vs Telecom.

I have not had bad experiences with all NAS devices but a lot suffer the same fate.
Vodafone is better too as you get 1 free month on sign up last time i checked.

the only reason i'm sticking with telecom is their 0161 calls which i use like twice a year ...

Vodafone has got the same traffic management as Telecom, they only do it if it's required.

Vodafone: ADSL, VDSL, UltraFast Cable, and fibre Unlimited All the same price where as Telecom is like $10 more for VDSL.

Not to mention the Cable TV that has all the sky channels that can be bundled with it. With a free recorder. (I don't need the TV but my parents like discovery, CI etc)

Plus if you're on cable you get a static IP

Why is cables latency to Dallas greater than VDSL and ADSL? (from True Net) I can get cable but I might have to get VDSL since latency on cable is worse than what I have now. That is if I end up going on Vodafone unlimited.

EDIT: Changed from international to Dallas.

Vodafone 100% acquired Telstraclear, Telstraclear is now gone from the NZ market

Just changed from Telecom to Vodafone VDSL. Couldn't be happier. Best mates (free calling!!) first month free, modem seems to work just fine and has everything I need, and thus far the speeds are awesome and consistent. Oh...and it was cheaper than Telecom, at least at the time we signed up. Unlimited=unexpected bonus.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Vodafone has got the same traffic management as Telecom, they only do it if it's required.

Given they have both only just launched. There is no real way of knowing that impact. It will take weeks, maybe months, before anything like that is needed and any impact can be assessed.

Of course by that time people will be locked into contracts and unable to escape since they agreed to traffic management.
