$115 Using Lightwire's own rural broadband network not the RBI wireless, that would more like be over $200.I don't have any problem paying $115 including phone that's what we pay for our fixed line and 100gb data + a couple of freedoms. what I have issues with is 30gb data under RBI wireless for about $115.  Its great for some one who has had to put up with dial up and on the fridge of a district ,not so good for DSL customers in the centre of a  township /metropolitan suburb.

I guess it's kind of like being on tank water, you either pay the tanker to come more often, or you have shorter showers.

I used a Voda 3G connection, calls and data, for around 5 yrs until a few month ago. Not an RBI connection but similar hardware. Connected to cell tower approx 13km away that I couldnt see!!
Speed was around 3-5 down and 700k-1.5 up. And although it varied it was reliable. Latency typically 80-100ms
Used same setup in 2 different parts of the country with consistant results.
Cost at time was $110 included 6Gig data and calls to national numbers

That's a very relevant analogy for rural areas, such as we are dealing with here.

If the OP is wanting 30GB of data per month, he/she is probably streaming a lot of video, so perhaps look at other options to get that content.  For example, sign up to Fatso and get movies sent out by post instead of downloading them.  In rural areas, you have to do some things differently, but IMO it's worthwhile for the space, peace and quiet.  If you don't like it, move to the city.

This seems like a catch 22 Conklins are now slow because everyone has large data caps and there is not enough backhaul capacity, so people move to wireless rbi and then want bigger caps for cheaper, but if they get it their wireless rbi will slow down with Pak loading and we will be back to square one? There may be some relief when 4g is rolled out and there is more available bandwidth in the 700mhz range.

I my mind a good solution would be to have a off peak cap, for the people who want to download large files that means less congestion on peak and heavy users can schedule if they need to without costing an arm and a leg. But I'm sure some people would disagree

Wireless RBI will never be affected by the same performance issues that Conklins have - there is a big difference between having a DSLAM with 3 or 4 E1 backhauls (8Mbps maximum) fed into an a single STM1 (155Mbps) ATM backhaul that also has large numbers of other DSLAMs connected vs a cellsite that has Gigabit Ethernet backhaul to it.

Unless they start selling regular mobile subscribers $1 per GB mobile data or something stupid like that.

Thought I would check what's on offer across the ditch in Australia , NBN 4G fixed wireless,  the data caps are cheaper than ADSL plans here , speeds are 12/1 Mbps or 25/5 Mbps , no unlimited of course . Why are the prices for fixed wireless so inflated over here?. My guess is the powers that be Government, Vodafone ,Chorus want to make huge profits plus chorus would loose money from people giving up there monthly line rentals in favour of Fixed wireless.

People giving up their good fixed line broadband in favour of wireless is a bad idea.

Yeah I agree . I guess what I was trying to say is for congested adsl situations pricing and services like the nbn fixed wireless would have temped more copper paying customers. The RBI fixed wireless prices are not family friendly.

Who's the cheapest provider for RBI wireless with around 30gb cap?

Is it better to wait for 4g next year?

Cheapest install price would be Farmside , cheapest 30gb cap would be Ultimate broadband $99 + $6.50 if you want a phone.
Antenna and modem would need to be changed in order to get 4G when it becomes available in your area . If you have access to 3G RBI fixed wireless already you could be waiting up to 5 years for tower to be changed over to 4G .

In my current situation I will be waiting for 4G  RBI fixed wireless with sharper pricing like the Australian NGN 4G fixed wireless or a cabinet upgrade , sticking with congested adsl1.

Yeah should do , however the ones in control of the prices need to sharpen there pencil , prices need to more like the Australia nbn fixed wireless for it to become a attractive option.

Do we have the population density of Australia? Or anywhere near it?
