Hmm,

Good idea. Lets just make the ISP market worthless and ruin business. I suppose they have not realized Chorus is a business like, Enable networks and NorthPower Fibre and they set the price. Not some slob who expects everything to just happen?

It's a little over the top. Most people don't understand the difference between what Chorus offer and what RSP's offer.

A simple answer like "There is usually a delay between Chorus offering new plans and RSP's making use of them" would have been far more appropriate surely?

John, appreciate that things take time and changing to new plans costs RSPs money, but Chorus has been consulting on these plans for the last two months, so they haven't come out of the blue, and the VF CEO was really keen for faster entry level plans, as evidenced here: http://www.vodafone.co.nz/press-release/dont-slow-down-on-speed-talks-says-vodafone/

Anyway, when do you think VF will retail these plans? "Not over night" provides some information - anymore at this stage?

This is far too true. I would have imagined, given there's been a few months for RSPs to consider the plan changes and pricing, that there would be a small window of testing or such upon release, but I wouldn't think it unreasonable to expect plans to be available within, say, 6 - 8 weeks of Chorus making them available wholesale, surely?

It's very unlikely larger ISP's will release that information until right before they are available. Occasionally VERY small ISP's will. If VF said "15th of August" then Telecom would spring forth and release on the 10th, and vica versa.

This is far too true. I would have imagined, given there's been a few months for RSPs to consider the plan changes and pricing, that there would be a small window of testing or such upon release, but I wouldn't think it unreasonable to expect plans to be available within, say, 6 - 8 weeks of Chorus making them available wholesale, surely?

Considering all the big players only very recently moved to "unlimited" plans quite recently, I'd imagine it would good for the marketing to stretch that out a little bit so you can have xmas presents 5 times a year rather than 5 all at once and nothing for a year. You know how demanding consumers can be.

All of this speaks nothing to the fact that these things are relatively difficult to manage from a technical perspective with billing, and infrastructure changes being required as well.

Oh ha ha, I guess I'm the butt of this joke. I guess extrapolating historical trends in broadband prices in NZ over the last decade to cover the next decade is "expecting things to just happen". Prices decrease, the tech becomes cheaper and replaced with better stuff at the previous price point. 10GPON is real and deployed in some places. Yet in NZ, Fibre wholesale prices are slated to go up.

Ask a legitimate question on Geekzone or /r/newzealand, get attacked with sarcasm. Is assuming good faith really that hard?

Fair to say they've been "around" for even 8 months+ (Re: http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/industries/9316329/Chorus-agrees-to-new-UFB-plans), which I fel validates my question even more as it could be expected to have new plans releeased within a matter of days following the launch of these new plans.

My reply was targeted at mocking the internet party rather than at your response. I agree that it could be possible for internet prices to drop as the network capital costs reduce and costs to run the technology may decrease.

If the RSP is serving areas not covered by Chorus then they will likely be wanting to wait until the other local fiber companies are also offering those plans. It would likely not be a good experience for customers to be told that they could not get the plan they want as they are connected by Enable, Northpower, or UFF.

I still don't see it being significantly different. For example, some ISPs (VF included) offer 200Mbps fibre, but only in selected areas. Surely if "only in selected areas" can be handled for one fibre plan, it can be handled the same way for several fibre plans?
