freitasm: This completely makes things more expensive. You have to pay $45 for NDSL and not have a landline. So you need to sign up for a VoIP provider, plus an ISP.

At the end of the day you will be paying at least the same, if not more, for a good service and connection.

Sorry!  You've lost me there Mauricio Undecided

How do you work out that it is MORE expensive?

There is a saving of $29.95 per month to be had, less the ISP charge which may be as little as $10 if past experience (from the pre UBS days) is anything to go by.  This would probably include some small amount of data, much as the $29.95 type plans do now.  If NDSL customers choose Xnet, if may be an even smaller fixed charge, and then $1 per GB as they charge now.

I don't see any way that it can possibly work out MORE expensive.  There should be at least a $20 saving to be had, whichever way you look at it.

Out of that, NDSL customers will need to pay for Voice Services.  Again, if past experience is anything to go by, WxC are likely to offer VFX to NDSL customers with free line rental and free local calls so long as they use Xnet for their ISP.  All supposition on my part, but this has been their policy to date.

And you don't have a landline, so you need to add the cost of te VoIP service as well, which is about $12 if using VFX (a decent one).

I don't think the $8 savings is a big deal - it's great but you still have to get an ISP bill, a VoIP bill, and probably more later.

MikeGayner: This is just an overpriced version of VOIP - you still need to pay full price for a phone line and BB connection.

I think you've missed the point here Mike.  Under the Naked DSL regime, $45 gets you a line with broadband installed.

WorldxChange's policy to date, has been to offer VoIP services with a free line rental to Xnet customers.  Free local calls are also included.  I don't see how you can say "this is just an overpriced version of VoIP" given the current policy.  Show me another VoIP provider who offers NZ DID numbers free of charge with free local calls.

After observing the way WxC does things for the past few months, there is a good likelihood that this situation will continue under the NDSL regime.

In theory:

1)  Sign up for Naked DSL with Xnet @ $45 per month + ISP charge ($10 maybe)
2)  VFX VoIP service is available with $0 or perhaps minimal line rental
3)  National Toll Calls @ 5c per minute as now

Sounds like a good deal to me Smile

Please refer to my reply above.  The VoIP line rental is likely to be free to Xnet customers.

Not if you sign up with WxC.  It will all be on the one invoice.

Saving should be more like $20, not $8, definitely still worth having.

As stated before, the savings are better than this now: $16.49 per line in urban areas.

A lot of NDSL talk is at cross purposes. $16.49 is line only, no dsl charge.

Arghh. You are right. Still have to put the ISP price on top of that...
