Behodar:TimA: Step 2. New ISP.
Yep, I've suggested that but he wants to give the current one another chance for some reason...
Behodar: That would be great, were it not for the "ISP email address issue"!

I strongly recommend everyone uses a non isp email. GMail and outlook are great free services with or without your own domain. Can even get a .nz these days without a .co under anyname

But what about all the business cards and signwriting on the van because they were too cheap to get a domain before spending all that money?

Yes I fully agree. It is something that I'm sure stops a lot of people from changing ISPs. We started using an ISP email address when we signed up for Slingshot 10 years ago. It would be very time consuming to change over to a new email address and the only other option is to pay $5 a month to keep the Slingshot email address so it was the main thing that stopped us from changing ISPs. Just the other day we signed up for UFB through another provide. We won't make the same mistake again and will be creating an account through Gmail or similar.
Behodar: Install scheduled for last Thursday. Vodafone promptly disconnected the copper broadband that morning. The installer turned up, took one look at the place, and said that they need to get a specialist thrusting crew in that afternoon and that the ONT etc would be installed on Friday. Dad called Vodafone and had them reconnect the copper broadband, although he had to argue about it ("my screen is showing that fibre was installed today"/"well it hasn't been!"). It came right within five minutes once he'd managed to convince them that it needed reconnecting.
On Friday it rained and the installation was pushed back to today. I can't fault Vodafone or Chorus for that one.
Today came, installation proceeded, all up and running. Happy father, excited son, ready to pop around after work and take it for a spin :)
Six hours later, it's all dead. My guess is that Vodafone attempted to disconnect the copper again but did the fibre by accident. To make matters worse, they're refusing to fix it today "because it's almost 5 pm". So they're happy to break it just before knocking off for the day but then won't fix it again. Lovely service there...

It still wasn't working as of this afternoon so dad called up again, only to find that Vodafone hadn't actually bothered to log the fault when he called them yesterday. They've now promised to have it fixed by 11 am tomorrow.
If this continues I can only suggest that he switches to a competent provider. Does anyone know whether it's possible to get around the 12-month contract when they constantly screw everything up?
