Annex M isn't a good answer to improved upload speeds - you might get 2Mbps, if you are lucky. Apart from VDSL or Fibre, HSNS is probably your only fixed line option. As has been mentioned, this is a business grade, high cost connection.

A fixed Wireless ISP would be a really good option. Most will do something like a 5Mbps symmetrical connection at 'residential' pricing.

Well, 2Mbit is *twice* what I get now, so yknow, it becomes a feasable option for my overnight data sync.

Had a look at HSNS Lite, seems like fixed costs are about $200/month and data is extremely expensive. It also would murder my download speeds as well - looks like I'd be able to get 5mbit symmetric or so.

Does anyone know which ISPs provide a higher speed wireless option? Woosh is 1.6Mbit, RBI isn't available to urbaners, and some of the other ISPs I've found doing wireless don't quote their speeds at all?

have two connections? your standard DSL for downloads, and a HSNS link or something, for your syncs.

Interestingly Vodafone and Spark will try to provide VDSL even though based on the Chorus map I'm outside of the zone..

Do ISP address checkers say you can get it? And what's your attenuation figure?

If Chorus map says he is out i doubt he will be anywhere close. The Chorus map is VERY generous with VDSL distance.
ISP read outs come from a tool that runs a query for past prequalifications (All ISP's use the same database)

And ultimately your ISP's pre-qual is still not definitive. It isn't guarenteed until connected.

The worst thing about VDSL is that once you get past that 1km (ish) distance results are worse than ADSL2+ and the connection is unstable. So if by some miracle it gets provisioned it may be rubbish.

Forget looking for a fixed line solution and go wireless. Ultimate broadband do symetrical 10Mbps connections at residential rates.

Their 10/10 plan with 250GB is $199, 150GB is $139 or 80GB is $99. You don't say exactly where you are but their coverage seems to take in a good part of Memorial Ave which I assume you must be near to.
