Lol yeah ok so they aren't exactly lunch money priced...but I am still looking for admin doco if anyone has any available?

Sorry this isnt helpful to the op
For others - You can buy a dslam quite easily 
Consumer brands like Dlink / Netcomm used to sell a 48 port one, zyxel sell 3 or 4 models from a 12 port up to a 48 port and they range in price from $800 to $5k
The "consumer brands" like the netcomm one was mostly aimed at apartment complexes / large hotels where dsl is an easy way to get broadband to rooms without cat5 cabling.
