pjamieson: What are your connection stats?  Splitter Installed?  Where is the Robot, is he on holiday!?

Yes I have a Master Splitter, 15.7Mbps down, 1.04 up. (From the router) It hasn't happened much lately, and when it does it is usually really early in the morning so none of us notice it.

As the issue is clearly an Orcon one being on their ULL kit, what did they say about it?

I have talked to other people as well not on ULL but on normal Chorus gear and they have had these issues as well. I have not talked to Orcon yet but I will now. Here is a smokeping graph to Trademe over the past 30

None of them have master filters and are on wireless, but I have a master filter and on ethernet.

This is the issue you are putting every customers issue into the same basket, Asking end users that don't know much about the internet is really adding zero value

.

And hence render their result useless.

Orcon will have dedicated bandwidth for their UCLL equipment seperate from the bandwidth chorus uses for its wholesale customers.
If Orcon have a backhaul issue it wouldn't affect chrous customers and vice versa.

Log a fault with Orcon and let them monitor it.  Being that it's UCLL they have a lot more control over the connection that a wholesale one.

Which is why you need to contact Orcon and they need to contact their ISP because it's pretty much impossible for the issues to be related. Your issue will have nothing to do with Chorus, and their issues will have nothing to do with Orcon.

if you're uploading with 16megabit sync on adsl you really should shift to vdsl.  it's really really easy to congest such a small pipe.  vdsl is a huge step up - but can still congest a little.

Line length is too long for VDSL. I don't upload much so I'm fine, but  it happens even when not uploading. Such as playing a csgo match and my ping goes to 900ms.

ahh i got put off by the llu speed increase.  i wonder if orcon will start doing annex-m now that callplus is.

i've found that high pings are often to do with people using dropbox etc, and random uploads happening in background.  bufferbloat on adsl upload is pretty common, and can be hard to catch.

if there is some kind of backhaul issue that intermittently comes then i don't really like your chances getting it fixed.

I've contacted Orcon, but it seems they don't want to do anything unless I supply a couple speedtests, and I don't think they understand that it only happens sometimes, not all the time

I haven't seen you posting around here lately but it's been a very common issue with a number of recent speed related issues - people leaving their torrents running on their unlimited plans and saturating their connection.

When the issue is happening, double check you connection speed on your modem hasn't dropped and run some speed-tests and log it with Orcon, based on what you find it will either be a physical line issue or something to do with their backhaul, as others have said.

Otherwise UFB comes to most of the area between Jan - Jun next year.
