nzbnw: Sorry, but I just have to say this. I didn't know you where a mod! But congratulations anyway!
geekiegeek: Personally I think bashing any telco/isp just for the sake of it is a wast of time. They all have there ups and downs/ bad points good points. Bash a perticuliar issue you have PERSONALLY had with them for sure. But I believe that in NZ's small market you cant honistly say telco/isp 1 is better then telco/isp 2 on everything. Each has its strenghs and weakness.
exportgoldman:
I also have a fair amount of distain for people arguing their point, with no answers, references, or even aknowlegment of facts and history surrounding events, people do find this annoying

Tell ya what, I'll ease up on Xtra, if someone can name the award they won in 2006.
*#%^& ISP? Well myself and countless other Telecom employees work hard to change peoples perceptions of Telecom, but sometimes it doesnt matter what we do, or say we are allways wrong.
To be honest, Telecom aside, I have found Xtra to bequite good, but then perhaps I know enough towhen some CSR try's to make one run around like ahead less chicken chicken.

OK, I ask you a question, which I'm sincerely interested in knowing, do you think because Xtra are the big boys on the block, outages on other ISP's don't get as much 'airplay'?

Don't get me wrong, I respect Telecom Engineers, they are some of the best and brightest in the country, and I dare say, if given the capex spend could do some amazing things.
I also, if you didn't read it, are impressed by Telecom Mobile's offerings, and technical direction.
But as smart, technically sound and forward thinking their Mobile solutions are, there is always something Telecom seem to be doing which is on the other side of this spectrum.

I remember ihug being in the news, because of their continually failing spam flooded servers, and problems with Whoosh's hardware/coverage issues.

I believe that Ican honestly say telecom is better than woosh at everything
nzbnw: As to your question, I'm sure that Telecom being New Zealand's biggest Telco, and Company for that matter will no doubt draw attention. However what really bugs me is the lack of people who say, good on Telecom (or any Telco really), they have really helped us out here and done this, this and this, because it does happen, just we don’t hear about it, enough anyways.
Then there is the poor reporting by the New Zealand media, who can at times totally miss understand thins, and everything just blows out of proportion.
At the end of the day, Telecom employ people, and as we all know sometimes people just make mistakes.
