bradstewart: I am on Orcon and get a steady 750Kb/sec and above on my downloads, not uncommon to hit 920KB.

I always got good speed test results but since iSlug took over the Auckland results now show me with a much higher upload speed than download. But my actaul speeds have not decreased. I blame Vodafone.

What really is fustrating is I've been trying to get a fault fixed on my xnet connection, and have been basing my speeds on the www.speedtest.net site, so now I have to start all over again. Sigh.

From a traceroute, my connection goes straight from xnet to ihug

1 2 ms 2 ms 1 ms 192.168.7.254
2 25 ms 24 ms 31 ms int-l32-akl-dsl01.wxnz.net [58.28.15.70]
3 23 ms 24 ms 23 ms ge-1-0-0-57-jcore3.wxnz.net [58.28.13.49]
4 18 ms 22 ms 24 ms ge-0-0-0-akl-core2.wxnz.net [58.28.8.9]
5 22 ms 23 ms 23 ms ihug1.ape.net.nz [192.203.154.36]
6 29 ms 21 ms 21 ms 203-109-132-20.ihug.net [203.109.132.20]

So, it's not being routed overseas or anywhere else weird. Just straight through the core to ihug.

Yeah - my TCL route is actually slightly longer, so that's obviously not the problem.  Must be the connection between ihug and XNet, although your ping times look fine.

Here goes my tracert:

I don't know how to insert the link as the editor is on basic mode, but I'm getting 101 down and 135 up.

My Results:
speedtest.net Auckland server:  114/261
speedtest.net Napier server:  1909/512
speedtest.xport.co.nz:  1920/521

I'm on Xnet.

BTW, what I also found interesting was tests I did on an ihug connection today to speedtest.xport.co.nz The results were very erratic, but to speedtest.net Ak server and nzdsl.co.nz, were all good. So I guess the path between ihug & xnet is a bit er well??

Theres a few people on XNET which are now having issues getting correct speed results from speedtest. Phil's test from xnet NOC showed very good uplink but bad downlink speeds to xnet from ihug.

Perhaps the link has issues one way?

Cokemaster, what ISP are you on? It looks like you have a fat link, through work?

And Coffeebaron didn't say what ISP they are with.

And it can't be just a ihug problem, as the Wellington speedtest is hosted at CityLink, which is a MAN with good links.

Sorry, maybe I should have put that in bold or flashing lights

I am on XNET and did a speedtest using XNET VFX speedtest and also speedtest.net and got similar speeds from both tests.

xnet

6510 down
743    up

Speedtest.net (Auckland)

6563 down
731   up

So not much difference this way
