Hey there mate. Yes, I joined 30th Oct 2006 and disconnected yesterday - 30th Oct 2007.  Exactly 1 year.  The CSR did say "I will get another call in about 4-5 days to confirm you definately and absolutely do want to disconnect".  I thought that was a bit weird... Am interested to see if they bill me tomorrow for November.

I'm sure you could negotiate out of your disconnect fee as they have most certainly not lived up to their side of the contract... and don't "switch plans",  that's not why you joined - you joined for "unlimited",  are paying for broadband,  and getting dialup.

Just disconnect and ask them to waive the fee citing poor service. I did that and they waived it without hassle. If they argue it there is always the fact that Woosh don't seem to take any kind of record to form the 'contract' they mention, so legally they can't hold you to it (Unless they have since channged their signup procedure). There has been plenty of discussion elsewhere in this forum about Woosh and disconnection fees.

KnumbKnuts:
Yeah... I was waiting for "have you tried rebooting your PC" - After saying that to my clients for the last 18 years... somebodys got to get me with that one day!

It's even worse when one of your clients comes back at you with one of your own phrases.....

That said, it does seem to be fluctuating in speed quite wildly, something I've never seen before.

yeah....there's a whole discussion going on in one of the other threads about weird Xnet speed issues.

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=65&TopicId=16255

If its a regular time of day problem - that would seem to indicate periods of heavy useage with the ISP - which points to a capacity issue. In the other thread there's all sorts of ideas about who is on what backhaul, and what's being limited, etc. Its tough one to sort out because some of the reference info isn't that accurate (one of the quoted ISP maps has FX networks connected directly to UUnet I think - which is unlikely since If I remember rightly - FX did a JV with Telecom putting their own equipment on Telecom's newly constructed central corridor). Plus - if it is international capacity out of NZ - what can you do about it?  From memory there are really only two cable networks out of NZ - Southern Cross to Hawaii or Oz, and Tas 1 to Oz and then Pacrim West to the US (Tas 2 was closed down last year I think, and PacRim East from NZ to Hawaii isn't used anymore - hard to keep track of what is still working and what has been closed down).

What will be interesting is when Telstra get their new submarine cable from Sydney to the US up and running next year - 1.2 terabits or something like that (at the moment Optus in Oz is kicking their butt as they are a partner in Southern Cross which is way bigger than anything Telstra have to the states). Still - unless Tas 1 is upgraded - NZ consumers may not get the full benefit.

Come on over guys, the beers are cold and the chicks are hot!!

I'll bring the vid camera and the baby oil :-)

My transition from Xtra to Xnet was pretty smooth, didn't have to tell Xtra nothin' about the change, and they (Xtra) also refunded me the remainder of the month in the next Telecom bill I got.

Knumbknuts, did you have to call up Woosh because you were on a 12 month contract or something?

Sorry for an offtopic... but I could not quity understand the plan XNET offer... I've called couple days ago and asked if they have true unlimited plans... the lady was positive on the phone... however, my mate called today and they reply back that those $34 and $50 are just for line speed and users also have to pay 1 cent per mb downloaded...

is it true?

looking forward to switch to xnet if they have true unlimited for $34 ...

It's a shame Xnet doesn't  see the benefit of bulk unhappy Woosh customers, and offer all  us XNET "all you can eat" wannabes a better deal to tx. 50 gigs is still over $100, which is double what we are paying with W....o.....o.s....h. I guess you can't have the swings and the roundabouts

You mean 0.1 cents/MB. If it wasn't true then the traffic would be shaped as it was with Go Large and speeds would grind to a halt.

Actrix offer a nice unlimited plan http://www.actrix.co.nz/page.php?id=194 for $596/month.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Nope XNET is not unlimited at all.  Just the cheapest I could find for the bandwidth I usually eat.

Check this page http://www.xnet.net.nz/hsi/ to see how it works.  I chose RIVER $33.95 and added $20 (20 Gig) of bandwidth.  If I use all 20Gig then I drop to dialup for remainder of month and get charge maximum of $33.95+$20.  If I only use 10Gig in the month I only get charged $33.95+$10.   I think it's cool, fair, and reasonable... for a 3rd world country.

Knumbknuts, did you have to call up Woosh because you were on a 12 month contract or something?

Yeah.  FAQ's at XNET say "Please do not contact your current provider prior to Xnet HSI installation as this may result in unnecessary delays. Once you are up and running on our service, then please contact them to arrange for your billing to stop."

Which I did yesterday - and today they called again to reconfirm I wanted to leave.  I said yes and please ensure they don't bill me tomorrow (1st Nov).

I'll bring the vid camera and the baby oil :-)

Broadband Elite: "Sign-up before November 16 and pay just $496 per month."  That's an awesome deal.

I'm pretty sure Xnet did once upon a time have a Go Large equivalent for $50-60 (last year?).  Agree with you Spyware (although I think you mean if it is true).

I don't think there's such a thing as a free meal in broadband in NZ, although I've heard some people currently doing 200GB+/month on Go Large and Zeroshock (and perhaps slow and steady does win the race).
