I've started a new thread here with information on my experiences changes from Woosh to XNET. I've been a loyal Woosh Orbit Unlimited customer for 12 months and have bought onboard at least 25-30 customers due to my day job as a web hosting provider/It support dude. Unfortunately Woosh screwed over their unlimited customers recently hence my determination not to give them any more money for a service they are failing to provide.

So sit back, relax, laugh with me, laugh at me, as I try to change Broadband providers - hopefully paving the way for others.

FYI - I'm in rural Christchurch on the Avonhead 2 exchange - quite a long way apparently from the exchange but could get download speeds around 2500 in the past which I consider good for my use - mainly downloading Microsoft patches, CD images, YouTube vids - around 20'ish Gig per month. No porn, p2p or torrents. Well ok, a little bit of porn.

29th October 2007 - 5pm

Filled out application form at www.xnet.net.nz

Chose "Internet Only" - Got to the last page and it asked for the primary phone number I wanted to convert to the XNET exchange. Huh? Got confused - rang helpdesk. Talked to someone about not wanting to change Telecom providers - just getting Internet Broadband - very very hard to hear them, like VOIP threw a wind tunnel. Think they said don't worry. Clicked FINISH. Had a beer.

Thought I would ring XNET to see if application went through ok.

Talked to lovely lady who said that it was lucky I called because application looked corrupted and incomplete. Took all my details again - with a lot of emphasis on 'this conversation is being recorded' and 'please confirm you understand this and that'. Very legal process. Quite scary - but I'll get over it. She was very nice. Flirted a little. Didn't seem to work. Remembered conversation was being recorded. Pulled my head in.

Was told my Woosh connection would stop working in 2-3 days but my ADSL light should still be on. Then I should call Tech Support for new logon details.

Fingers crossed - if you don't hear back from me in 2-3 days - don't change to XNET!! :)

I switched over around 8 months ago & its been brilliant! Cheaper bills & faster internet!!

I changed about 4 months ago and it was the best thing I could have done. Have had no hassles at all with it. Previously with woosh I originally had their unlimited plan, but after multiple complaints about speed they suggest I change to another plan with a data cap as the data on the unlimited plan was 'managed' - however after changing I still seemed to be in the same 'pool' of users, only now with a data cap and still crappy speeds.

Chaning to xnet made a HUGE HUGE differnece and I would never touch Woosh ever again.

Modem stopped working - that's weird... only 8 hours since I asked to switch, couldn't be that easy? Rang the direct tech support number for XNET that the lovely lady provided. Damn... got a guy. Oh well...

Told me to change my logon name on the router, password and all other details stay exactly the same.

Save settings. Reboot router.

WHAMMMMMOOOOO!!! BLAMMMMOOOO!!! WELCOME TO XNET!!!!

Email Arrives: Your Xnet Broadband account has been set up in our systems and is ready for you to enjoy!

Will post some speed tests tomorrow... but it looks promising, YouTube playing instantly.... woohoooo!!

talked to Woosh today, all Unlimited customers getting an s-mail on Wednesday.
might be with you on Xnet by Friday-Saturday.

I don't believe what just happened.

30th Ocrober 2007 - 7pm

Elated at finally getting my bandwidth working again, I made the long awaiting call to Woosh... I still can't believe what I was told...

ME: Hello, I'm a Woosh Unlimited customer and I wish to cancel my account please.
CSR: Certainly sir - I'll just confirm your details and do it right now....

CSR: And the reason for cancelling?
ME: Poor service.
CSR: Poor customer service?
ME: Well poor service in the fact that I've been paying for broadband for the last month and you've been delivering less than dialup speeds.

HERE IT COMES.... ARE YOU SITTING DOWN.... DO YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT HE SAID TO ME?

CSR: "You do realise that your line speed is dictated by the distance from the exchange and your telecom line quality sir."

Now folks, you remember the WWF wrestling? Do you remember Hulk Hogan? Do you remember the look on Hogans face when he suddenly jumped up after being almost beaten in the ring... waving his finger at his opponent and turning bright purple - and then went into a berzerker-like fit.... Yeah, well that was me.

ME: Could you repeat that please?

ME: You have GOT to be kidding me? The REASON why my line is slow is because you've run out of bandwidth, put me in a slow pool of users and then neglected to inform me, wasted hours of my business time and I've had to find out via forums and gossip on the Internet because I've been given 20 different stories from 20 different CSR's over the past month. I seem to know more about the issue than you.

CSR: I know there is some issue with the Unlimited users at the moment but, er, ahh, um, ok I'll just process your cancellation now... blah blah...

Mauricio mate, you've been duped. These guys still don't know what the hell is going on.

Let's see if they charge my credit card on November 1st shall we?

Oh yes this reminds me, Woosh screwed my account over and I still have not got my refund. Time to call them tomorrow, nice pricey mobile call to their 0800 number I think.

Yeah... I was waiting for "have you tried rebooting your PC" - After saying that to my clients for the last 18 years... somebodys got to get me with that one day!

Hey Bruce... here are some Speedtests taken this morning around 6:30am.

ROUND THE CLOCK SPEED - WOOSH NATIONAL

6:30AM SPEED - XNET NATIONAL

Now I downloaded a long awaited Linux CD image from XNET (LA Server) last night around 8pm from XNET and speeds were quite a bit slower than what I'm getting this morning. Last night it was fluctuating quite a lot between 25-35 KB/Sec - not that great but it was peak times I guess. This morning she's flying down at 150 KB/Sec+ (which is around 700Meg per hour) That said, it does seem to be fluctuating in speed quite wildly, something I've never seen before. Now for the good bit....

ROUND THE CLOCK SPEED - WOOSH INTERNATIONAL

6:30AM SPEED - XNET INTERNATIONAL

Keep in mind I'm down a long rural road and about 60,000kms from the crappiest exchange in Christchurch - I'm more than happy!

Come on over guys, the beers are cold and the chicks are hot!!

Was your contract up with them yet?
Mine isn't for another two months and I don't want to pay a disconnect fee.
Good news that xnet put you on so fast, that's who I'm looking at.
I also hope they don't muck me around when I do go with billing. I always hate ISP's that you have to set up auto billing with, as I don't trust anyone to get that right, especially after a cancellation.

Let me know how you get on with that part and thanks for the thread.
