ubergeeknz: Tim - best way to get a pre-qual is to try the website first, if you get no result for fibre then call and ask for a manual pre-qual.

I do get a result for fibre and gigatown on the Chorus and Orcon websites, but last week I was told by Orcon that gigatown wouldn't be ready until June, so we arranged to get 100mb until then but then yesterday I had a call back saying that wouldn't be ready in our area until the end of April. It's a bit frustrating as the Chorus site has updated its info a couple of times over the last couple of weeks so I don't know if it's just Orcon looking at old data or if Chorus has jumped the gun in updated their site.

ratsun81: Another slightly more cheeky option would be to call up your ISP and ask to get wiring and maintenance on your account.

Request tech out and then cancel the wiring and maintenance next month.

Heh, I do have that on my contract, I'll give them a call and try this prove to demark only test. Don't really have anything to lose at this stage.

timtait: I put a master splitter in my new house about 18 months ago, it worked fine until the start of this year (the day Chorus started installing fibre lines on the street outside my house, I doubt that would affect it but seems like a funny coincidence). Since the start of the year the phoneline / internet will drop randomly throughout the day, any time someone picks up the phone the internet dies, also the phone has a lot of noise to the point where it's near impossible to hear people sometimes.

I've got a master splitter inside the roof where the phone line enters the house, from there a network cable runs to the adsl router in my office, and a single phone line runs to the single phone we have in the kitchen.

For the hell of it I tried throwing the plugin filters on both end connections to see if it made a difference but no cigar.

Has anyone ever heard of the master splitters needing to be replaced? I wouldn't have thought I'd need to after 15months.

Anyone have any ideas what else I can try before I get the ISP to call someone in? I didn't really want to as I've been waiting to have fibre installed but my ISP keeps telling me it's not ready here yet despite Chorus listing my house as fibre and gigatown ready :/

Yup, I replaced a near new one couple of weeks ago, took a while to troubleshoot because it was the last thing I expected to die but eventually was the only possibility left. If you connected a phone to the "phone" side of a plugin filter and still have the problem, then I don't think its your master filter.

Have you called your phone provider about the noisy line?
