Outstanding news! Nice find mate. We just got our UFB letter - "your streets ahead" (the poor grammar pun really annoyed me, but still happy) but this should be great to tide us through until the UFB is laid and available in our road :)

Very interested to see what happens when this is implemented. Anyone have any idea of a time frame on it going live on existing lines? If Spark are advertising it then presumably it's available in some form at the moment?

Yes indeed. Some of us have to wait until *AFTER* 2016 for UFB :_( so I'll take any incremental upgrade I can get at this point!! :)

it would be nice for chorus to stop rate limiting the upload speed, and to allow 6db snr margin. or even 3db.

with the last power cut, my sync jumped from 35 to 45 megabit or something - with a lower snr margin of arounud 6db iirc. and similar error counts.

so just allowing 6db snr margin could allow for significant speed increases. that said, it didn't really feel any faster, and i'd prefer to see 20 megabit upload. i expect with 6db snr margin, and slightly more asymetricness my line could probably do 50/20, which would be a significant upgrade over 35/10.

I think the tradeoff for lower SNR margins for the system is a whole is more errors and crosstalk, so it's a bit of a balancing act.

i had a 3dB snr last power cut which meant my line went from 49 to 68. it lasted almost 2 weeks before it dropped back.

damn. yeah, it's kind of annoying. i never lost sync, my port just stopped passing traffic. i can't see the cabinet from my house, so i have no idea if chorus were screwing around with something. i've had a month+ on lower snr after a power cut before. but on adsl it only increased speed by like 4 megabit.

most of the errors seem to be burst errors though, and snr margin nor interleaving seem to really help a lot. it'd be kind of cool if dlm was real time, but in the end with lowish error counts, it seems to be that it doesn't help, only reduces speeds and increase latency.

for some strange reason, i've found interleaving can be more unstable too. like i had a slightly dodgy line, and enabling interleaving with stability profile seemed to make it more unstable. (15db snr margin etc) in the end, just letting it resync sometimes seemed to be all that could easily be done. at least there were frequent power cuts too, so got the extra speed from the lower snr margin... which seemed to have no impact on frequency of disconnections too.

DLM has 2 primary roles: optimal line stability and performance for you, and optimal line stability and performance for everyone else :)

Sometimes it works in your favour, sometimes it works in everyone else's.

in australia they let you set your snr margin target. i really wish that'd come here, then if people have issues they can put it back easily, and if it's fine go with it.

After further reading I worry this will result in marginal lines (like mine) losing upload speed, as it moves the US1 to a higher frequency. Will Chorus enable US0 when they implement this change?
