I haven't had ADSL at my new place. Since most of my traffic is downstream. The 3Mbps gain is meaningless. The 25Mbps drop is of more concern, hence I don't agree with the maths presented

To me that speed at 15.5db seems very strange...

considering I am on 15.9db @ 61/13!!!

so at your current place you had 38mbps or was this a different place?

you cannot compare different premises, sooooooooooooooo many different factors can influence the performance

Don't cut off your nose to spite your face.

Despite all of the very real and severe problems with cable congestion experienced earlier this year (see the Krapi Cable congestion thread where I complain regularly

), following the October upgrade HFC cable is now vastly superior to xDSL, even on a bad day. (I've lived with both for several years - cable plus xDSL backup - at the same Wellington address.)

We don't get fibre until 2019/2020, but I'll be quite happy with HFC at least until then - upgrading to gigabit cable at the earliest opportunity.
If it works, I'd be tempted to stick with cable.

I really like to see the OP's line speed. FOr all you know that was a speedtest done on distant wifi.

As a closing remark its worth mentioning that I showed the chorus guy the live modem info and having ruled out my household wiring as an issue he said there was nothing more he could do...

The op is on vdsl, so I'm pretty sure you are wrong johnr.

Chorus set a minimum sync rate of 15Mbps for vdsl. If the op isn't getting that he is within his rights to request a move back to ADSL.
ISP should oblige.

I have already advised this but then they lose uplink speed and might gain a bit in downlink

10/4 to my mind suggests something is odd. usually on really long connections the upload is much lower than that.

you can't compare attenuation between adsl and vdsl. there have been some upgrades recently happening which improves download speed, and if your cabinet hasn't been done yet then your speeds may go up.

posting modem stats could be interesting.

The 15/5 minimum sync rate went a long time ago. It's now best effort.

you have 2 choices

live with what you have as they have looked into pretty much everything

or go back to ADSL

Why would you go back to ADSL? Isn't it the same price? ADSL would be a downgrade, no?

As someone who has lived with 6/0.5 for the last 5 years, OP's moaning is a bit eye-roll-worthy. Comparing two entirely different addresses and throwing his/her toys when the speeds are unequal is idiotic.
