Sideface:   Presumably you bailed out before the rot set in in late 2014/early 2015?

Not 100% sure, but I think I moved around 2 years ago.

Perfect timing!  smile

Why do you call it Krapi cable?

It cant be speed as in Hataiati - its normally in high 40'sMbps at all times of day  - ok there are exceptions but not that many.

<snip>

I call it "Krapi cable" because:

1. it's a reference to the Krapi cable congestion thread

Getting meta here, the 'Krapi Cable Congestion' thread was named in tribute to the original canary in the mine thread 'Kapiti Cable Congestion' which resulted in thread starter 'mattbush' committing electronic seppuku and requesting he be deleted.

I don't think that's what happened to him.

Thanks for the the input guys. I've bit the bullet and upgrade the Cable to UFB and sticking with Vodafone. Due to the uptake in orders in my area it might be a month or two before I can attually get the UFB.

So Vodafone allowed you to change from cable to fibre at the same address?

Unusual.

Very strange but not the first time I have seen this. Personally, I would have ditched Vodafone and gone with a better provider however if Vodafone is working well then why move?

Well would you bloody believe it. VF called me this afternoon are now saying that the UFB is not available in my street despite the online form allowed me to order UFB. However they were going to offer me an upgrade in speed at no extra cost as a consolation of not providing UFB. They said to wait until next month when the UFB has been physically installed in my street and I can then upgragade the cable to UFB.

"Ultra Fast Broadband" (UFB) is a confusing advertising term used interchangeably by Vodafone for "Ultra Fast Cable" and "Ultra Fast Fibre".

Double check. Now.

Personally I would move to another ISP if I had the option of switching to fibre.

What does Chorus's map say? Does that say you can get it? If so, move to another provider as soon as possible (I'm assuming you're out of contract?).

I call it "Krapi cable" because:

1. it's a reference to the Krapii cable congestion thread

2. I have personal experience with terrible cable performance / speeds for the last 12+ months, still not fixed. It is no consolation to me that this is considered "exceptional".

This was my "100/10 Mbps" connection at 8pm last night:

EDIT:  This has nothing to do with price, and I have made no mention of cable prices on Geekzone.

Oh wow, I forgot about this thread. How has this not been fixed in so long? It is a pure Vodafone network issue and should be top of the list of things to resolve...

My interpretation of the problem (supported by a Trunet graph posted by freitasm (https://cdn.geekzone.co.nz/imagessubs/cacc80a7a71334d53ccab90517cdde41.jpg) both 100/10 and 50/2 connections drop to something like 30mbs download during peek congestion. For those of us who only expect 50mbs, its a not-so-bad, same speed many fibre people get all the time, and about 60% of what we pay for. For those expecting 100mbs, it is a 70% drop. That is bad!

Sideface:
EDIT:  If your power, telephone, radio, or TV reception cut out every night, would you consider that acceptable?

Ironically, the one thing that could keep us using Vodafone Fibre when we have the option is that they bundle a Freeview PVR with their uncapped plans.
