Yeh i think just get you current upgraded to VDSL. VDSL modems are reasonably cheap now. And it will probably double your current speed, and possibly triple your upload speed. If worst comes to worst you can either roll back to ADSL or cancel the vdsl and get 4G. Personally think VDSL will be the best option.

If your line is indeed 500M, you could easily be looking at 30/5, likely upwards of that.

Leave the airways for those who need it more, it is realistically a finite resource.

2. if we go down the VDSL route what is normally required (We have a wired split installed for ADSL will it work?)

<snip>

If you get VDSL you WILL need a proper VDSL master filter  (an old ADSL master filter may work, but not as well as VDSL one).

(Some people will argue that you don't always need a master filter, so we shall agree to differ on that point)

There have been plenty of threads on here of people who get vdsl connected without a master filter and their connection works just fine, so to claim "you will need a proper master filter' is simply wrong.
Some houses don't need master filters installed, some get a very minor benefit, and some get signfiicant benefit.

Telling people they will definitely need one without having checked out the state of their wiring is very bad advice.

I was under the impression that a master filter is part of the install, i.e. mandatory

Its wise to have one installed to limit possible issues and ensure the best connection so generically, it is pretty decent advice IMO.

in cases where you have a perfect situation, single run etc Totally, a filter isn't really needed. One could argue more joins from the filter is a potential cause of more points of failure.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Certain isps never did do full installations, its cheaper for them.

With the rollout of 998, many isps have also dropped back to not doing full installations by default.
