That site sounds lame. Why was it even launched again? They hardly sound unbiased either.

They are also giving  ISPs a rating of , and  MyRepublic gets one of 100%. But what is the rating even based on? Is it actually an impartial website , or do ISPs pay the website in some way, via advertising or commission?

Hi all - we've been reading with interest the comments and opinions on here and other sites.  It is early stages for us and we will continue to improve and enhance the site in the coming months taking on board productive feedback such as some of the comments in this thread.

In brief response to some of the issues raised, upon launch, yes, we exceeded our API cap, this has been fixed.  There were a couple of typos, these have been fixed, when dealing with over 2000 broadband plans the odd bit of human error does unfortunately happen.  Answers to some of the other questions and comments raised here have now been addressed on our website in articles including how the Broadband Compare rating works, why coverage data is sometimes not absolutely accurate, an explanation of the broadband speed figure we state and how we generate revenue.  We are in the process of creating a full FAQ.

We welcome feedback and areas for improvement on the site can be reached on hello@broadbandcompare.co.nz.  The coming weeks and months will see us making new releases and improvements to the website which I hope are welcomed.

Thanks

Good to see u on here responding to feedback. Hope you stick around.

A few questions:
How do you mean in your last post by 'early stages'?
The site has been around since April 2015 - that's well over a year ago.

Why do you claim this is a first for New Zealanders? As you're aware there are plenty of other sites out there that do basically the exact same thing - and some have been around for ages. How is your site better/different?

Hi NonprayingMantis.

In response to your queries.

Good to see u on here responding to feedback. Hope you stick around.

*** Thanks - we will - might not always be this quick though!

A few questions:

The site has been around since April 2015 - that's well over a year ago.

*** There has actually been a site on the domain since earlier than that... it was a simple blog in those days.  The 'early stage' we refer to is the newly launched site with comparison tool.

Why do you claim this is a first for New Zealanders? As you're aware there are plenty of other sites out there that do basically the exact same thing - and some have been around for ages. How is your site better/different?

*** Our press release stated - "For the first time ever, Kiwis will be able to visit a free-to-use, one-stop-shop website to see over 2,700 broadband deals on offer from 70 internet service providers currently operating in New Zealand"

No other sites in New Zealand list as many ISP's or plans or operate in the way we do when comparing.  We believe our site is far more comprehensive than others providing much more than just a list of ISP's.

Thanks

Hmmm... Just went to your front page and see only "1412 packages" from "71 providers" so not quite true PR?

And FWIW my actual ISP doesn't even show as a possible option either?

*edit - I also see Whoosh offered, though they're shutting down now too, so surely can't take new sign ups?

Hi there PhantomNVD,

Just coming back to you.  On the day the Press Release went out, Thurs 30th, we had "Over 2,700 plans from 70 ISP's".

Today we have 2751 from 71 ISP's.

Your screengrab shows residential plans.  1,412 in total.  Business plans on the site shows 1,339.  Total 2,751 plans.

Since we launched we have added one more ISP.  We'd be keen to add your ISP too if you let us know who it is we'll make contact and get them listed... just seen your edit.  We'll reach out to Whoosh, if they are closing we'll get them removed.

Thanks

It deduces I can get UFB so suggests ISPs that don't have a handover in my area (bigpipe, voyager).

Suggests an unlimited Actrix plan!  I thought, wow, Actrix do unlimited now?  Turns out they don't.

If I say I want a static IP it doesn't show MyRepublic.  Who offer static IPs.

The database of plans is a bit rubbish, and it clearly doesn't cope with less-than-nationwide UFB coverage.

damn, thats impressive for adsl2...

Some of the wireless providers appear to have disappared (or ratings simply changed, im not going to go through all the pages)

Gisborne net is being suggested as third for my address now, Never knew Rural Westcoast Auckland was so close to gisborne!

Hahahaha wow.....

This seems like a fantastic tool for uninformed consumers to be basing their internet provider choice on.

But seriously, although the site clearly has good intentions this is the sort of misinformation that makes NZers have such a bad attitude towards our ISPs. Imagine when joe bloggs from Auckland rings gisborne.net and asks for a highspeed wireless connection, then gets all grumpy when they tell him it's not available.

I find interesting some people have no problem using beta software but get so sarcastic when they could help improve a new service.

Wasn't trying to be sarcastic myself, just thought to point out a seemingly obvious error. I see that business is somehow separated from residential, though I'd personally say that's an arbitrary separation as many home businesses might also be looking at this, and some home users are prepared to pay for a business plan if they want/need some business grade features?

@BroadbandCompare FWIW my ISP is Skinny Broadband.

*edit - so if I severely limit the financial range I finally see Skinny, listed last, and only rated 4/4??? I'm getting 25-30/1-5 so is 4/4 the minimum or 'expected' for my address?

Could I suggest a slightly easier to compare 'grid' option where all the providers at the same filter were offered 'equally' with a rating value listed separately? E.g. If my price point is $55 (like skinny is) I could either filter the price or scroll down a table listing to the $55 row and see what other options there are in that price category. Seems like a table view would show far more options in an easier-to-compare way, even if only as an 'option'?

It's all part of that new housing package to open up more land for building isn't it

Is it a beta though? They come out using all fancy buzz words saying how fantastic this tool is for consumers. When in actual fact it is based on anew extremely misinformed database and the search results are barely tailored to suit the search request.
