Launching today, Broadband Compare:
New broadband comparison website offers Kiwis the chance to find the best broadband deals on offer in New Zealand
AUCKLAND, 30 June 2016. For the first time ever, Kiwis will be able to visit a free-to-use, one-stop-shop website to see over 2,700 broadband deals on offer from 70 internet service providers currently operating in New Zealand, with the launch of broadband comparison website Broadband Compare. With the number of Kiwis online predicted to grow to 4.4 million by 2020 and as ultra-fast broadband is rolled out throughout the country, the site will become a key tool for internet consumers.
“There is a perception that there are only a handful of ISPs operating in the New Zealand market, when in reality there are actually more than 80 ISPs, offering a total of more than 2,700 packages – that’s a lot of choice,” says Broadband Compare founder and CEO Gavin Male. “Broadband Compare is the only portal that offers a comprehensive overview of the packages on offer, and the service will ultimately lead to a better deal for the consumer.”
Broadband Compare officially launches on Thursday 30th June, 2016, and Male believes that the service will help educate New Zealand consumers, making them more price-sensitive, and helping to drive competition in the industry.
“When compared to other markets internationally, New Zealand is actually very expensive for internet services, especially for higher data users1,” he says. “Broadband Compare will empower consumers to find the most appropriate broadband plan for them, at the best price.”
Another key benefit of the website is that it gives smaller internet service providers an equal voice, helping to level the playing field in a market dominated by a handful of major players. While a consumer may not know of all the ISPs operating in their region, Broadband Compare exposes the full list of market offerings, maximising competition pressure.
“Consumers actually have a lot more choice than they might think,” says Male. “The best deals out there aren’t necessarily those being offered by the major players, and a consumer might be on the wrong package for them. Broadband Compare makes it extremely easy for New Zealanders to compare broadband plans and make the right choice.”
Consumers in rural locations are also well taken care of, with a comprehensive range of wireless, copper network and VDSL broadband providers listed on Broadband Compare in areas where ultrafast fibre broadband connections aren’t yet available.
